Terrorists operating in the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, have killed the head of the vigilante group in the area named, Mallam Nabanje.
Katsina State Commandant of the Vigilante Group, Salisu Rabo, who confirmed the incident, also said, the terrorists set his house ablaze.
According to Rabo, the hoodlums targeted the vigilante leader.
They also shot two persons and reportedly raped three women during the attack.
A source from the area who pleaded anonymity said the attack was more of a revenge mission, as the hoodlums had earlier accused Nabanje of being responsible for the destruction of their enclaves.
According to him, the hoodlums arrived the community in large numbers and proceeded to the residence of the vigilante commander, blocking all routes, to avoid him from escaping.
The Katsina Vigilante Commandant said, after a painstaking search, they found the deceased vigilante commander under a tree, where the terrorists had engaged him in a gun duel.
It was reported that he ran out of ammunition, and was rounded up when he sought refuge in a compound, where he was butchered.
The spokesman of the Police, Assistant Superintendent Abubakar-Sadiq Aliyu confirmed the incident and said efforts were ongoing to arrest the hoodlums.
