Terrorists have killed unspecified numbers of vigilantes and residents in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State in an ambush.
Although residents alleged that 30 people were killed in the ambush, the spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, Gambo Isah, disputed the figures.
He insisted the real figures of the victims would be known after the police operatives who had gone to the scene of the incident provided a feedback.
Isah said, “Our team led by the Area Commander is there already and until I receive a feedback from them, I cannot give you the real figures of casualties.
“All I can say for now is that the terrorists ambushed members of vigilante pursuing them after some informants had alerted the terrorists that they were being pursued.”
It was learnt that some vigilante members along with some residents had on Thursday evening around 5.30, moved evening n mass to a location in Mji community,Kankara Local Government Area with a view to recovering some domestic animals that the terrorists had rustled and kept there.
The residents said unknown to the vigilante members and those who accompanied them ,the terrorists who came through Bakori, were aware of their presence and they had already laid ambush for them.
The residents alleged that the terrorists swooped on the vigilante team and killed no fewer than thirty,adding that several others were also injured.
It was further learnt that the corpses of the victims were still being removed from the scene on Friday morning for burial.
