The Secretary to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Ray Emeagha, has alleged that there are fake polling units in the state.
Emeagha stated this in an interview on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, adding that the party alerted INEC on the issue in 2019.
He said, “In 2019 we discovered that there were fake polling units in Imo State. We alerted INEC and I give credit to them because they came in and corrected (it), but today they (referring to APC) have gone back to the same system.
“Secondly, is it not a fact that INEC data is being compromised? A local government that has been bedevilled by insecurity where almost every community was in a disaster and registered less than 12,000 in 2019 and now claiming to have registered 86,000.
“It’s Oru East Local Government, particularly the ward of the governor of the state which registered 46,000 (voters) but had only 6,000 three years ago. Is it on INEC website?”
Emeagha also mocked the Ministry of Information in the state by calling it a factory in Imo Government House whose jobs is to manufacture lies and propaganda.
Responding to the allegation, INEC national commissioner, Mr Festus Okoye, said there are 176,846 polling units nationwide where personnel and materials will be deployed.
He added that the commission did not create new polling units. Rather it converted voting points and voting point settlements to full fledged polling units.
