Two killed in Plateau attack on Wednesday

Tension has gripped Butura village following the killing of herder when hoodlums attacked a Toyota Boxer vehicle in Butura Company community of Butura District of Bokkos local government area of Plateau state.

Two others were said to have escaped in the attack, which took place around 7 am on Wednesday morning

 

The latest was said to have occurred a day after a 43-year-old herder, identified as Abubakar Sa’id was killed in the Kop Mandarken community in Bokkos District while on his way to the house in the area.

Garba Abdullahi, state chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria (GAFDAN), who confirmed the incident to journalists gave the names of the victims as Halilu Jamo, Mu’azu Ali and Anas Babangida.

While narrating how the incident occurred, the chairman said, “The victims were conveying Millet to their house in Butura, which they bought from Fadan Karshe market, when suddenly some hoodlums attacked the them. In the process, Halilu Jamo was killed instantly while Mu’azu Ali and Anas Babangida, escaped the attack.

“The vehicle alongside the Millet were burned down. We have informed the security agencies about the incident. Following the report, the personnel of Operation Safe Haven, maintaining peace in the area had escorted us to recover the corpse of the deceased. We are calling on the security agencies to put an end to this needless killings.

Mark Lipdo, told our correspondent he received information of tension in Bokkos LGA due to two security breaches which occurred early morning of Wednesday.

According to him, information gathered from sources on ground revealed that two separate incidents occurred in Bokkos LGA. One at Butura Company and the other at Gada area of the local government.

He said, “Sources said In the case of Butura Company, the Fulani armed militia continued their attack on the community claiming that one of their members was found dead in the area. While in Gada, a local farmer who went to harvest his crop was killed by the same Fulani Militia on the farm.

“Presently, there is a protest on going in Bokkos town by locals.

“Stefanos Foundation is deeply saddened by these developments, he said, regretting that the police have not been able to deploy more security as promised.

“We call on citizens in the area to continue to maintain restraint as we trust the the Almighty God, Judge of all evil will soon bring justice in the situation.

The Spokesman of Operations Safe Haven OPSH, Capt Oya James and his counterpart in the police, Alfred Alabo, did not pick their calls when our correspondent rang their phones.
