Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has announced the commencement of implementation of the 2022 budget of amounting to N381.4 billion.
Special Adviser to the governor on Public Enlightenment, Eze Ugochukwu, explained that the budget comprised 74 per cent capital expenditure of N284.7 billion, while recurrent expenditure amounted to N96.7 billion anchored on the administration’s of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery (3Rs) mantra.
Also, Uzodimma departed Nigeria for Abidjan, Cote d’ Voire for an economic growth summit in conjunction with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), organised by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
The statement noted that the implementation of the budget was premised on the governor’s comment, while presenting the estimates to the state House of Assembly in December last year.
“The 2022 budget has the broad objective of ensuring that our efforts to deliver our programme of shared prosperity through wealth creation and recovery come into full force this year.
“This budget of N381.4 billion is made up of recurrent expenditure of N96.7 billion and capital expenditure of N284.7 billion. In essence, the provision for capital budget is over 74 per cent. This is the first time in recent history that there is clear budgetary emphasis on capital projects,” the statement reads.
The governor maintained that the appropriation for capital expenditure underscored the administration’s determination to build upon critical infrastructure, especially roads that would transform the state’s economic landscape in 2022.
“The budget also presents a clear signal that we will prioritise the welfare of Imo citizens in health, education, agriculture, industry, youth empowerment and job creation.
“I anticipate that by the end of this year, Imo State would have witnessed a tremendous infrastructural transformation that will set it on an irreversible path to economic growth, which will make all of us very proud,” it added.
