It was earlier reported that Kukah in his 2020 Christmas message titled, ‘ A nation in search of vindication’ , on Friday, accused Buhari of nepotism. The cleric had said , “ Every honest Nigerian knows that there is no way any non -Northern Muslim President could have done a fraction of what President Buhari has done by his nepotism and gotten away with it. “ There would have been a military coup a long time ago or we would have been at war . The President may have concluded that Christians will do nothing and will live with these actions. “ He may be right and we Christians cannot feel sorry that we have no pool of violence to draw from or threaten our country. However , God does not sleep . We can see from the inexplicable dilemma of his North. ” Reacting on Saturday , the minister said Kukah and other religious leaders have a responsibility to speak truth to power but “ such truth must not come wrapped in anger , hatred, disunity and religious disharmony ” . Nursing Mother Abducted In Jigawa

Gunmen have kidnapped a nursing mother, leaving behind the one-month-old baby in Gujungu town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The gunmen were said to have stormed the residence of one Basiru Haruna and whisked away his 23-year-old wife, Habashiyya Haruna at about 2 am on Saturday. Confirming this to Channels Television, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Abdu Jinjiri, said that the incident was only reported after about eight hours, making it difficult for the police to trace the kidnappers. “We received a report from one Alhaji Alasan Audu, the father of the Kidnapped, victim telling us that his daughter Habashiya has been kidnapped around 2 am, and that the husband who became scared fled into the bush until after 8 am,” Jinjiri said. “Reporting late doesn’t help. How can the police rescue the victim when the criminals have left for over eight hours? People must learn to report to the police early. And for the husband to run away and leave his wife and baby behind, that creates a lot of doubts.” “The success behind the kidnapped case of Alhaji Bronco who was kidnapped in Jahun and was released the same day was as a result of reporting early. So, please I call on the general public to report incidents immediately,” he added. Similarly, the police spokesman also confirmed the killing of two police officers, adding that one Constable sustained an injury on Christmas day, in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State. This is coming less than a week after some gunmen killed a police officer who was trying to rescue some kidnapped victims in Maigatari Local Government. “Based on intelligence, the police got to know of the presence of kidnappers at Kargo Fulani settlement in Garki LGA, who are terrorizing Gumel emirate. “In this regard, a Joint Operation of Police Divisions under Gumel Area Command was organized. Okorocha, Uzodinma in war of words over demolition

Former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha and the incumbent, Governor Hope Uzodinma are on each other’s throat over a demolition spree going on in the State. Okorocha, who currently sits in the Senate has cried out accusing the current Governor of demolishing his legacy projects. But Uzodinma whose bulldozers are on rampage insists he is on a rescue mission to beautify Owerri, the State capital. Senator Okorocha’s Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, in a statement described the demolition of seven roundabouts built by his boss in Owerri, as insensitive. “It has become necessary to appeal to Governor Uzodinma to stop demolishing Okorocha’s projects, which he built for lmo people and for the development and progress of the state, especially, when the incumbent governor is not building any structures and is not likely to initiate any. “On Tuesday, December 22, 2020, Uzodinma again, deployed bulldozers to demolish the Orlu-Assumpta Road Roundabout, which Okorocha constructed to ease traffic. He not only built the roundabout, but also expanded Bank Road to eight lanes. “Governor Uzodinma chose to demolish the roundabout this Christmas season, when the state is expected to witness influx of people and vehicles. And he demolished the roundabout without telling lmo people why he did that and what he intends to do with the place. This is somewhat, insensitive,” the statement reads. Okorocha also lamented that Uzodinma had demolished a tunnel constructed from 2011 to 2019, stressing: “Before the demolition of the roundabout, Governor Uzodinma had demolished another Okorocha project, the Akanu lbiam Tunnel.” He explained that the project was built on the House of Assembly-Port Harcourt Road junction, insisting that he built the tunnel to save lives, because before the construction of the tunnel, people died regularly on that spot. The former governor, who now represents Imo West Senatorial District, recalled that the demolition of Somto Hospital on Douglas Road, Owerri, was built in memory of the a 10-year old killed by security operatives during the demolition of Ekeukwu Owerre Market, among others. However, Uzodimma insisted that the projects were being demolished to ease transportation and beautify the state, especially its Capital City. He had told Imo people that he contracted a firm knowledgeable on construction of modern roundabouts that would ease traffic gridlock with traffic lights, lamenting that motorists spent hours trying to access other parts of the state. The governor pleaded with Imo people and other commuters to bear with the inconveniences caused by the demolitions and reconstructions. Following the general outcry that greeted the demolitions Governor Uzodinma also told Imo people that he was demolishing some of the structures to rebuild them up to standard. But Okorocha disagreed, arguing that due the quality of the materials used in constructing some of the legacy projects, the demolishing bulldozers were unable to level some of the structures. As the exchange of words continues, the Imo people remain at its receiving end.

Edo Election: Forgive me, Mayaki begs Akwa Ibom REC Igini, insists he was manipulated

The Chairman, Edo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Media Campaign Council, Mr John Mayaki has apologised to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Mike Igini over allegation of holding a secret meeting with top members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with a view to rigging the last September 19 governorship election in Edo State In a Christmas day message titled: “Mike Igini: I got it wrong, I apologise”, Mayaki wrote that as the year winds down, he has spent some past few days reflecting on his activities as a professional journalist, conducting credibility, integrity and fact checks on some of the statements he authored and stumbled on some embarrassing ones. Stunned, Igini who has since slammed a N10 billion libel suit against Mayaki dismissed the allegation with a wave of the hand, insisting that he and two of his colleagues had only stopped briefly in Benin City on August 24 on their way to neighbouring Delta State for a burial ceremony. Mayaki confessed that his August 27 statement, which pointedly accused Igini of conniving with Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, the PDP candidate in the election, was an embarrassment, noting that the story proved to be totally wrong and unable to pass credibility check. A remorseful Mayaki penned: “As a Christian, I strive daily to have a conscience devoid of offence towards God and towards men and I am willing to apologise to whoever I may have offended in the course of my duties, knowingly and or unknowingly.” Going down memory lane, the spokesman recalled that August 27 was the most unethical day for him as he didn’t cross-check and interrogate his source as regards the allegation before issuing the controversial statement. He admitted that as a professional journalist, rather than base his judgement of the information from the source on its news value and public’s right to know the unbiased truth, he allowed his political interest to motivate and take a better part of him. The contrited spokesman added: “I have taken time to scrutinise and review my source, the story itself and also listened to the testimony of other credible persons on this statement and the impeccable character of Mr. Mike Igini and have come to the conclusion and admission that something went wrong. My investigation and findings have now revealed that the story was not only untrue but unable to pass integrity and credibility checks. “Being the chairman of the media campaign council, I took my assignment with a great dose of responsibility, privilege and honour. I appreciate the confidence and trust repose in me to serve in that capacity but for this source who thought he could advance my political interest with fake news and thinking propaganda could land us a win, this has proved wrong. “This source did not only misled me to mislead the people but also to impugn on the reputation of Mr. Mike Igini and for which I am deeply embarrassed – I apologise.” Mayaki freely agreed that he was manipulated by his source and complicit in the achievement of his goal as he failed to apply the simple rules of investigating journalism and logic to the allegations raised against one of the highly respected and reputable RECs of INEC- as the statement was highly offensive. He said that he failed by inadvertently allowing sinister forces, who were hellbent on destroying the nation’s institutions, to abuse people’s trust and achieve their nefarious objectives, promising that he will learn from these embarrassing moments and aim to win back the confidence of Nigerians by putting in more hard work in whatever future assignments under his supervision. He continued: “I tender my profound apology to Mr. Mike Igini, the Governor of Edo state, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Mr. Anselm Ojezua – whose names appeared in that statement and on whom the story touches directly. By extension, I apologise to INEC for the inconveniences or embarrassment this statement has occasioned them as I hold Mr. Mike Igini in highest esteem. “I am thankful to my conscience for acknowledging this great mistake. I am also glad I listened and also ready to learn. I have resolved to do my best to re-win the trust of all friends and those I have offended with the said unfortunate “August” statement. Human beings make errors. I am human and no exception.”
