Son: Wole Soyinka’s house was not attacked by herdsmen

The young Soyinka said in a statement he circulated on social media that the story was not true. It would be recalled that some social media platforms published a story that “Prof Wole Soyinka’s house was attacked last night by Fulani hoodlums and miscreants to assassinate him because of his numerous truth to power and particularly, because of his recent News Interview where he spoke truth to the Presidency especially advising Buhari to come out openly and denounce the Fulani herdsmen dastardly acts of violence in the Southern parts of Nigeria”. But Dr. Olaokun Soyinka in the statement said the story was nothing, but fake. He said “this is not true, please do not circulate further and help to debunk it”. “It is an attempt to encourage discord. Although some cows were spotted, neither Prof or his house was attacked by anyone”. “I have confirmed this today (Wednesday 10th) directly myself from him”. “Kindly do not fall for this attempt, whatever the motive, to further inflame this problematic situation”, he concluded. On its part, the State command of the Nigeria Police said the matter was nothing, but a case of stray cow. The command spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement issued in Abeokuta and made available to Vanguard, said there was no attempt by any person to attack Prof. Soyinka. Abimbola said, “It was a thing of surprise to see a video trending on social media that the respected Professor wole soyinka’s house was invaded by Fulani herdsmen with the view to attack or kill him”. He said “the video is nothing but a calculated attempt by mischief makers to cause panic in the mind of people. There is nothing like invasion of Prof Wole soyinka’s house or any form of attack on his person”. The Police statement read, “The attention of Ogun state police command has been drawn to a video circulating on social media about a purported attack of Nobel Laurete Prof Wole soyinka’s house by Fulani herdsmen and the command wishes to set the record straight as follows”. “Yesterday Tuesday 9th of February 2021, one Kazeem Sorinola an indegine of Ijeun Abeokuta who is into cattle business said to have been informed by a young Fulani man, Awalu Muhammad who is taking care of the cattle that one of the cows had got missing”. “While the Fulani man was searching for the stray cow around Kemta Estate where the Prof. Wole soyinka’s house is located, the Prof. himself who was going out then saw the Fulani man with some of the cows and he came down to ask where the man was heading to with the cows. He there and then asked the Fulani man to move the cattle away from the vicinity”. The DPO Kemta division, who heard about the incident quickly moved to the scene with patrol team and the owner of the cows was invited to come with the Fulani man in charge of the cattle. The duo were questioned and properly profiled”. “The entire place was inspected by the DPO and it was established that it was just a case of stray cow as nothing was damaged or tampered with”. “The video is nothing but a calculated attempt by mischief makers to cause panic in the mind of people. There is nothing like invasion of Prof Wole soyinka’s house or any form of attack on his person”. The Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun has been to the scene for on the spot assessment, and he personally interviewed the owner of the cattle Kazeem Sorinola, as well as the Fulani man who is in charge of the cattle and their statements show clearly that the mischievous narrative of invasion is nothing to take serious”. “The command hereby wishes to warn the fake news peddler to desist from it as they may be made to feel the weight of the law. It is an offence for anybody to originate or help in circulating fake news, the command will therefore, henceforth be tracing and fishing out those deliberately dishing out fake information to members of the public especially the one that cause panic in the mind of innocent people”.

Frozen accounts: Govt cannot be intimidated, Malami tells #EndSARS campaigners

The Attorney- General of the Federation , Abubakar Malami ( SAN) , has said the Federal Government was not wrong to freeze the bank accounts of 20 #EndSARS campaigners. “ Government is not wrong particularly in circumstances that justifies intense investigation. It is the end result of an investigation that can determine whether government is right or wrong as determine by the court on the basis of the facts presented , ” he said . Malami, who is also the Minister of Justice, stated this on Channels Television’ s ‘ Politics Today ’ programme. Recall that following the destruction that trailed the #EndSARS protests last October , the Central Bank of Nigeria obtained a court order to freeze the accounts of the #EndSARS promoters. However, a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the CBN to unfreeze the accounts of the #EndSARS campaigners. Some of the #EndSARS campaigners had since threatened to sue the Federal Government for trampling on their rights by freezing their accounts . But speaking hours later on the decision of the court , Malami said the decision to comply with the court order or not would not be out of intimidation , adding that the government cannot be intimidated. He said , “ The decision to comply with the court order or not is not a decision that is a product of intimidation ; government cannot be intimidated, government cannot in anyway be compromised as far as the exercise of its constitutional powers are concerned but that does not mean the government is perpetually inconsiderate . “ The bottom -line is that the public interest matters most in whatever decision the government arrives at as far as compliance or non -compliance with the orders or judgments of the court are concerned . Intimidation is out of it, threats are out of it, constitutionality is the bottom -line . ” The AGF further said that the regime of President Muhammadu Buhari was lenient with the #EndSARS protesters , adding that no government all over the world can tolerate a situation where scores of policemen were murdered because citizens expressed their rights to lawful assembly and freedom of expression. He stressed that the government would continue to protect Nigerians and their constitutional rights. “ The government is there to ensure there are no security threats and in so doing the true position of things is that it is the responsibility of the government to accord protection to the lives of the citizens, their personal liberty , freedom of movement, and indeed accord protection to all the constitutionally guaranteed rights of individuals . “ So , the government , can, on no account , be forced to submission when protection of these rights are concerned , ” the minister noted .

Reps move to probe privatized public enterprises, recover accrued revenue

The House of Representatives on Wednesday unveiled plans to investigate the status of some of the public assets by successive administrations and ensure recovery of revenue accrued to Federal Government. According to the lawmakers, some of the companies, including NlCON Insurance, Nigerian Re-Insurance and NICON Luxury Hotels are already taken over by Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) over acquisition loans. The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Mukhtar Ahmed, who underscored the need for the recovery of revenue accruing from the privatized companies. In his lead debate, Hon. Ahmed said: “Federal Government of Nigeria embarked on privatization and commercialization of public enterprises to introduce private sector resources and discipline, create jobs, reduce the burden of funding of the public enterprise on the national treasury. “The House notes also that prior to and post-privatization of some federal public enterprises, the Federal Government still shares in some of the enterprises and are therefore entitled to dividends. “The House is aware that some of the assets, cash and residual shares in Privatized public companies like NlCON insurance, Nigerian Re-Insurance and NICON Luxury Hotels are already taken over by AMCON over acquisition loans. The House is concerned that the Federal Government may not be able to recover those monies, dividends and assets except if they are not properly determined. “The House is further aware that the Federal Government needs money to finance the budget. To this end, the House resolved to constitute an Ad-hoc Committee that will investigate, determine those assets and report back to the House within 8 weeks. Also at plenary, the House mandated its Committee on Public Procurement to investigate the serious allegations on flagrant abuse of the Procurement Act 2007 by the new management of Project Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu State. The resolution was passed following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon Henry Nwawuba, who expressed concern over various allegations levelled against the new PRODA management team which allegedly embarked on contract cancellation and re-award of same without the approval of Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) two months after assuming office. The lawmaker who called for the House intervention, kicked against the decision of the new PRODA management team to commence de-novo the already concluded 2020 procurement process where various contractors have executed their contracts, and are yet to be paid due to the same. To this end, the House directed PRODA management to stop forthwith all further procurement activities in the 2020 Appropriation Act pending the conclusion of its investigation. In line with its resolution, the House Committee on Public Procurement is expected to invite the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonaya Onu; BPP Director General as well as PRODA management to appear before the Committee and report back to the House within 7 days.

Femi Kayode Has Betrayed Ndigbo, Joins APC To Campaign For Tinubu Or Jonathan —- MASSOB.

The leadership of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has described the rumoured defection of Femi Fani Kayode (FFK) to APC as true. He has been romancing with the APC politically since mid last year after Bola Tinubu convinced him to stop criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari clueless administration. Comrade Uchenna Madu (Leader of MASSOB said this in a statement made available to Crimefacts.news He said, “Femi Kayode inroad to APC is primarily to support and campaign for the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu as a fellow Yoruba man. They are working seriously even to convince other top Yoruba leaders including former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Woke Soyinka to give credibility support to the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu for the sake of youruba political interest in Nigeria”. “The second reason of Femi Kayode’s defection to APC is to campaign for the former president Goodluck Jonathan if Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambitions crashed. Goodluck Jonathan will soon declare for APC because of the promise and assurances giving to him by Northern caliphate. These political arrangements and strategies will fail because Nigeria is heavily pregnant, only the people of Southeast will determine if she will live or die because we hold the lifewire of Nigeria”. According Mmadu, “MASSOB is not against APC or support PDP. We have respected Igbo leaders in both APC and PDP whom we equally respect. APC and PDP should not push the people of Southeast to the wall because Ndigbo holds the survival and destruction of Nigeria”. “The destruction of Nigeria will never affect Ndigbo but it will totally destroy the Fulanis and their Hausa collaborators, even the yorubas will not survive it.” “They Northern caliphate can no longer dictate the political future of Nigeria again. The political reality of 2023 will proof them wrong because Ndigbo will take another political dimension that will determine the next step for Nigeria”. “MASSOB advise Igbo leaders associating with Femi Kayode to exhibit extra carefulness because Femi Kayode is a core full blooded Yoruba man who always hate everything about Igbo. He is a betrayer like his father, Obafemi Awolowo. He can never support an Igbo man to be president of Nigeria. He is an unrepentant political sadist against Igbo interest,, “he added.
