“You’ve turned Aso Rock to APC headquarters’ — PDP governors hit Buhari

Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have criticised President Muhammadu Buhari for “turning the presidential villa into the headquarters” of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The opposition party governors said Aso Rock has become a place where some “coerced PDP members are paraded at intervals”. The governors made the comment in a communique issued after their meeting in Bauchi on Monday. “The meeting condemned, once again, the use of underhand tactics to arm-twist some PDP Governors and other stakeholders to join the APC, a political party that has wrecked Nigeria’s economy, turned Nigeria into a killing field and has nothing to offer Nigerians but misery and bad governance,” the communique reads in part. “The Governors condemned Mr President and APC for turning the Presidential Villa, that belongs to all Nigerians, into the new APC headquarters, where coerced PDP members are being paraded at intervals.” The PDP governors also called on the federal government to find solutions to the activities of bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists. “On security of lives and properties, in addition to our earlier recommendations, it is time to bring the activities of bandits, kidnappers and terrorists to an end, through increased use of military equipment, traditional means of conflict resolution and technology for surveillance and the development of the political will to flush them out,” they said. “Kidnapping, banditry and terrorism ARE NOT BUSINESS VENTURES as claimed by APC but heinous STATE CRIMES, that is destroying the Nigerian economy, the educational and social future of our children and causing significant social upheavals in society.”

TOAN boss ‘s a peace maker- Activist

The Media Adviser of Anambra State branch of Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), has described their boss, Comrade Sylvester Chibueze Obiora, as a peace loving man. The assertion came against the backdrop of allegation of threat to life by one Arinze Agbani against Comrade Sylvester Chibueze Obiorah and his Executive. Dede Uzor said those who know their leader very well would appreciate that he is not only a lawyer but a peace loving man, who cannot hurt a fly but a philanthropist. He said before Obiora’s emergence as the leader of TOAN in Anambra State there were about 50 cases among Keke owners in the State but he has been able to resolve the issues amicably. He said Obiora he knows very cannot threaten anybody, rather he deployed diplomacy to resolve every matter that came to his table in course of administering of Keke operation in the State. The Media chief said: The allegation is a figment of Agbani’s own imagination. His so called association has been proscribed by the Anambra State government. If he is still collecting money from Keke owners and operators at Owerri Road, then he is engaging in extortion and it is a criminal offence”. He accused Agbani of having a gang that intimidate Keke operators which he said has since been stopped, saying that Agbani has no single Keke anywhere in the State. Dede Uzor said the State Government will not hesitate to declare him wanted if he continued to cause trouble, challenging Agbani to explain what led to his recent release from prison,if not extortion associated with Keke members?

BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Adjoined Till October As Judge Orders IPOB Leader To Remain In DSS Custody

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Justice Binta Nyako adjourned the trial on Monday at the resumption of proceedings at the court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The trial suffered a setback after the Department of State Services (DSS) failed to produce Kanu in court. Justice Nyako faulted the action of the security outfit, noting that she had stayed back in her chambers waiting for the defendant to be in court. She asked the prosecution to be diligent with dates whenever she gives one, stressing that it was important for Kanu to be present at his trial. Meanwhile, Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu will remain in the custody of the Department of State Services despite a request to transfer him to Kuje correctional centre. Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court gave the order on Monday during the resumption of Kanu’s trial in Abuja. In an application to the judge, Mr Kanu had argued that he cannot get a fair trial if he remains in the custody of the DSS. He also sought for an order to grant him access to his medical doctor for the purpose of carrying out a comprehensive independent medical examination on him. In her verdict, Justice Nyako ordered that the DSS should allow access to Mr Kanu, although it won’t be a free-for-all. With Mr Kanu absent in court, the judge adjourned the trial to October 21. The DSS said Mr Kanu’s absence in court was due to logistics reasons. Credit: Channels TV

Kanu’s trial: Anambra commuters stranded as bus drivers desert parks

Commuters moving in and out of Onitsha, Anambra State were on Monday stranded following partial restrictions of vehicular movement within major roads in the commercial city. The Nation gathered the restrictions might not be unconnected with trial of the detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Commercial buses plying Awka-Onitsha route had suspended operations over fear of being trapped in the looming crisis, particularly as videos of bonfires at the popular Upper Iweka and other strategic areas of the town went viral in the social media. Those who dared the situation took advantage of the development to exploit their passengers. While some charged N500 more than the usual cost of N300 from Awka to Onitsha, others charged as high as N600. Parks visited by our correspondent around 8am witnessed commuters waiting hopelessly for scarce buses while those who insisted on traveling paid through their noses. Shops, markets and offices were under lock and key while some major streets are deserted in the commercial town. One of the commuters, a civil servant who simply identified himself as Oliver, wondered why a court matter going on far away Abuja would have such impact on people in Anambra state. Oliver, who resides in Onitsha but works in Awka said he decided to go back home after several efforts to get to work failed. “I can’t understand our people. Why don’t they vent their anger on those in Abuja than transferring the aggression on innocent people like us? I better go home and rest than risk my life for no just cause, ” he said. Another passenger, Regina Anene, who was traveling to Onitsha from Awka said she had to disembark from the bus she boarded immediately the driver announced where the journey would terminate. “Thank God the driver informed us on time where he will stop everyone. I wonder how I would have trekked that long distance to reach my destination. It would have been frustrating,” she said. The Nation further learnt that tension was also high in Nnewi, the industrial city of the state as persons suspected to be pro-biafran members took over some major streets, engaging in bonfires and damaging vehicles who they claimed violated the movement restrictions.
