Two Days After Deadline, UNIBEN Yet To Conclude Report On Student Who Wore ‘Aggressive Malpractice Brought Me This Far’ T-Shirt

Authorities of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State are yet to submit the result of their findings in the alleged case of malpractice against a graduating Microbiology student of the school, Miss Peace Ufuoma Jite-Eda, two days after a self-imposed deadline by the department. In a terse reply as regards the outcome of the report which was supposed to have been concluded by Tuesday, July 20, one week after the inauguration of a six-man panel on Tuesday, July 13, the Head of Department, Prof. S.E. Omonigho, said that the only competent person to speak on the issue is the institution’s registrar, Dr Benedicta Ehanire. In a viral video, a dancing and ululating Miss Jite-Eda reportedly wore a t-shirt with the inscription “Aggressive malpractice brought me this far.” A source at the department in the Faculty of Science, however, disclosed that the report was yet to be out as members of the panel which has Dr (Mrs.) I.B. Idemudia as member/secretary was yet to seat. Among others, the terms of reference of the committee are to investigate her involvement in any examination malpractice, unravel what actually transpired as regards the online publications, scrutinise all her results to date including all exam scripts etc. Other terms of references are also to scrutinise all marking schemes for all her courses, the veracity of the inscription on her shirt, determine whether she really engaged in malpractice and provide any other useful information on the controversial matter. Determined efforts to get the mobile phone number of the student from her colleagues proved abortive but Mrs Ehanire corroborated the departmental source insisting that the report was not yet out. The spokesperson said: “I can confidently tell you that the report is not out yet. Once it is out, we will make it public. We will not hide the outcome of the report. It will be in the public domain.” She, however, refused to disclose when the panel will submit the report to the university authorities, assuring that it will be disclosed to the public.

Nnamdi Kanu deceitful, a blackmailer – Uche Mefor

Uche Mefor, the Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) estranged deputy leader, has labeled the group’s embattled head, Nnamdi Kanu, as deceptive and a blackmailer. Kanu, according to Mefor, has a “culture of lying.” He made the remark in reference to the lives lost as a result of Kanu’s campaign for Biafra. In 2020, Mefor’s partnership with Kanu came to a halt owing to a disagreement about IPOB’s operations. Mefor was against violence while insisting that human rights must be respected in the agitation for Biafra. “I maintain that the culture of lies, of deception and of blackmail of Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB with reference to those lives destroyed and who cannot speak for themselves will take generations to undo “See how they falsely label and destroy people’s character with impunity. “When I said that what goes up must come down, I meant every bit of it. Whatever anybody sow, I for those perpetrators. “They shall be alive to experience the same pains they inflicted on those vulnerable who are unable to speak for themselves,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “The forces of heaven and earth shall continue to work in dissonance and in discordant pattern for all of you. Time shall definitely tell.”

Gunmen Kill 5 Farmers In Nasarawa Community

No fewer than five Tiv farmers; four females and a male have been murdered by yet-to-be-identified gunmen believed to be Fulani herders in Gidan Sule village, Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. President of Tiv Development Association in the State, Comrade Peter Ahemba, revealed this in an interview with Daily Trust in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Thursday. Ahemba stated that the gunmen stormed the village and attacked the people on Wednesday night while they were sleeping and murdered no fewer than four of them instantly while the fifth person died after being taken to the hospital. He said: “Five persons (were) lost in Gidan Sule village in Keana LGA due to the attack by suspected Fulani herders on Wednesday night. “Four out of the five persons were instantly murdered but one of them who we thought would survive the attack, later died in the hospital.” “Tiv people in Nasarawa State are peace-loving people. There was no misunderstanding between my tribesmen and the suspected Fulani herders in the community so I wonder why the attack was carried out,” he said. He, however, urged Tiv people in the community to remain calm as he was working with security agencies to restore normalcy in the community. When contacted on phone, the Acting Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in the State, Bala Dabo, informed our correspondent that he had not been informed of any attack in the community. He promised that he would investigate the incident to ensure that he gets the rationale behind the crisis. “I have not been informed about the attack and I cannot confirm to you that my people were the ones that actually carried the attack. “I want to assure you that the matter will be investigated so as to ascertain the true position of what really occurred in the community on Wednesday night”, he said. While confirming the incident to our correspondent in Lafia, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, ASP Ramhan Nansel, explained that, upon receipt of the information, a detachment of Police personnel consisting of Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Vigilante and Hunters with support from the Military were drafted to the area. According to the command’s image maker: “On 21/7/2021, at about 2300hrs, information was received that unknown gunmen while shooting sporadically, attacked a particular compound at Gidan Sule Village along Lafia- Makurdi road. “Four corpses were recovered at the scene while three injured victims were rescued and rushed to Odumu hospital for medical attention; one person later died while receiving treatment at the same hospital.” He admonished members of the public to always feed the command with useful information that will aid the police to protect the people better. He promised that the gunmen who killed the villagers would be arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

2023: Buhari had no succession agreement with Tinubu – Okechukwu

A founding member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change CPC, one of the “legacy parties” which merged to form the now ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Mr Osita Okechukwu has dismissed speculations of a succession pact between President Muhammadu Buhari and a leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Okechukwu who is currently the Director General, Voice of Nigeria VON was in the same CPC with President Buhari before the duo followed the now defunct party to form the APC. Speaking with journalists Thursday in Abuja, the VON DG hailed the leadership of the APC for proposing the presentation of a consensus candidate for the 2023 presidential election. He however conceded that despite Tinubu not having any succession pact with President Buhari, the former stands in a good stead to be considered for the plum job. “One slept well last night after reading the profound statement from the social media credited to Distinguished Senator John Akpanudedehe, our National Secretary that at the appropriate time APC will come up with a consensus and agreeable presidential candidate that will fly its flag in 2023. I hail the consensus proposal for it is a deft move which will perish the phobia of implosion of our great party as touted by some naysayers.” Okechukwu said. Akpanudoehede had on Tuesday said the adoption of a consensus arrangement is one that is bound to upset permutations by some pundits who are hoping that with 22 governors, majority parliamentarians at national and state levels and uncountable presidential hopefuls that the APC will definitely implode. The party’s statement was in reaction to allegations by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP that President Buhari had a self-succession plan. “After our congresses and the National Convention, we will shock them (PDP) by bringing a consensus and an agreeable candidate that will fly the flag of the party come 2023. APC has no third term agenda like PDP. What we are doing now is to stabilise the party and not allow individual ambitions to derail President Buhari’s administration,” Akpanudoedehe had stated. Vanguard recalls that in an earlier media interview, a former National Chairman of the CPC, Senator Rufai Hanga had disclosed of an agreement between Messrs Buhari and Tinubu. However, in his reaction, Mr Okechukwu said; “First it is refreshing that President Buhari is not for 3rd Term Agenda. Second, in my slightest imagination one doesn’t think any committee handling such delicate matter will miss out on our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the matrix. Methinks, he will be among the top aspirants to be considered, given his immense contribution to the success of our great party in 2015.” Asked if there was any specific agreement between the president and Mr Tinubu as Sen. Hanga suggested, the VON DG said; “As a member of the defunct CPC, I never heard of such an agreement and most importantly Mr President is not wont to, or better put, rarely enters into any formal or informal agreement with anybody. But he appreciates good deeds.” “All I know was that Asiwaju automatically could have been the Vice President if not for what lawyers will call force majeure. For our leadership warned against Muslim/Muslim ticket. Our leadership then argued that the Abiola/Kingibe Muslim/Muslim ticket which worked in 1993 may not work in 2015, if Buhari/Tinubu both Muslims were to run, as the scenario differs. That was how Asiwaju nominated Professor Yemi Osinbajo, GCON as a replacement”, Okechukwu added. The VON DG however conceded that as one out of the over 40 million members of the party, he could not say with all certainly how the pendulum would swing ahead of 2023. “Who am I, an ordinary member to decide for the over 40 million membership of the APC? As a political scientist, all I fear is the Governor Bala Mohammed PDP Committee’s report which recommended open contest, rather than rotation. It is a big albatross to rotation of president to the south. Albeit the PDP by throwing it open, is covertly plotting to harvest Buhari’s 12 million Vote-Bank. Indeed, a lot of people take it that PDP is tacitly waiting in the wings for APC to go South and they go North to quickly harvest the Buhari’s Vote-Bank, domiciled mostly in the North.”

Imo PDP Says Suit Against Uzodimma Still At Supreme Court

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that its legal battle against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 governorship election in Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma, is still subsisting at the Supreme Court. The party made the clarification against the backdrop of reports of a suit by one Barr. Mcfyne C. Chikwendu, who claimed to be a concerned citizen, seeking in an Abuja Court the removal of Senator Uzodimma as the governor of Imo State. The court had vacated the suit, saying that Chikwendu had no locus standi to institute the legal tussle. The party, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Ogubundu Nwadike, said that since the publication of the report, it had been inundated with inquiries on the status of the suit. The statement said: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State hereby clarifies that the legal matter is still on, in which the party seeks the Supreme Court to enforce its judgement on the status of the actual candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 Imo governorship election, and consequently the illegitimate occupation of the Office of the Governor of Imo State by the APC. “Our Party makes this clarification following our inundation with speculations by party leaders, stakeholders, members, supporters, and indeed a large number of people from Imo State and Nigeria at large on the suit by one Barr. Mcfyne C. Chikwendu, who claimed to be a concerned citizen, seeking in an Abuja Court the removal of Senator Uzodimma as the governor of Imo State. “That was the suit that was vacated by the Abuja Court, which declined the prayers of the applicant. “Our party restates here that while the matter that was declined was by the Abuja Court, the matter involving the PDP is at the Supreme Court, awaiting the hearing. “It is the petition by Chief Philip Umeadi SAN, joined by the PDP, asking the Supreme Court to enforce its judgement on the candidate of APC in the 2019 governorship election, in which Chief Uche Nwosu was recognized and disqualified by the Supreme Court as the authentic candidate of APC in the election. The PDP expressed optimism that whenever the matter is called up for hearing, the irreversible decision of the Supreme Court on the bonafide candidate of the APC in the 2019 Imo governorship election would be enforced.

We don’t receive illicit funds, drug money for sponsorship, IPOB replies Reuben Abati

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Thursday replied a former Senior Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Reuben Abati, that it is not a terror organisation that receives illicit funds and does not need drug money for its sponsorship. It also told Mr Abati, that it maintains presence in over 100 countries of the world and gets its funding from the financial contributions and donations by members and, therefore, does not need drug money for funding. Describing as false the alleged assertion by Mr Abati, that a certain drug peddler who was allegedly caught by security agents in Imo State, was IPOB fund raiser, the Biafra agitating group warned Mr Abati, to stop blackmailing it, saying that linking IPOB with a drug dealer or dealers is a big insult to the great people of Biafra. A It also told Mr Abati, that it maintains presence in over 100 countries of the world and gets its funding from the financial contributions and donations by members and, therefore, does not need drug money for funding. A statement by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, entitled, “Reuben Abati watch your utterances, Biafra project not funded by drug trafficker,” said that it has tried to ignore pockets of unwarranted attacks by Mr Abati against the group and its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but will no longer tolerate his insults. IPOB statement read in part, “The attention of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been drawn to the malicious and fallacious assertion credited to Mr Reubben Abati, that a certain drug peddler who was said to have been caught by security agents in Imo State, was IPOB fund raiser. “We have tried to ignore pockets of unwarranted attacks by Abati against IPOB and our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, but we will no longer tolerate these insults. In case Reuben Abati and his likes do not know, IPOB is a global family and not a terror organization that receives illicit funds. IPOB is legitimately funded by its teeming members most of who are very enterprising and resourceful sons and daughters of Biafra in the Diaspora. IPOB maintains its presence in over 100 countries of the world and gets its funding from the financial contributions and donations by members. It does not need drug money for funding. “No single individual or drug dealer is sponsoring IPOB or the Biafra project. Biafra is a divine mandate which Chukwu Okike Abiama designed and asked Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB members to actualise. “Reuben Abati linking IPOB with a drug dealer is a big insult to the great people of Biafra. Those close to him should advise him to refrain from his vituperations against IPOB as this can no longer be tolerated. IPOB is not desperate about funding otherwise we know what to do but funding has never been our challenge. “Reuben Abati is interfering into IPOB matter much and it must bring him down because IPOB will ridicule him anytime soon, Mr Abati must leave IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu alone and face his business or he is going to meet his waterloo because God Alright Chukwu Okike Abiama is going to handle him. “Abati hatred against Igbo people cannot change God’s wishes for Igbos. Reuben Abati with his family cannot match a single family in Igboland, he should stop envy and jealousy against those he knows that are bigger than him and his family. The God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama bless IPOB and Nnamdi Kanu, his hatred cannot change anything in our lives. “Mr Abati’s derogatory statements against the great IPOB family cannot bring IPOB down because God Almighty, Chukwu Okike Abiama is behind us to deliver Biafrans. “We recall that in 2017 Mr Abati was rejoicing and jubilating over the fate of our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu after the Nigeria Army invaded his Afaraukwu. We wonder what is the business of Reuben Abati in the affairs of IPOB and Biafra struggle. “Those who know him should tell him to stop castigating IPOB and writing junks about IPOB and its decision on Radio Biafra broadcaster, what is his business over IPOB decisions, is he a Biafran or Igbo man. Mr Abati, stay off Biafra affair or face the wrath of Biafrans.”

The governor made the disclosure at the launch of the Aminu Masari Youth Empowerment Foundation, AMAYEF, held in Katsina on Thursday. “As the journey towards 2023 is getting closer, I chose to make my retirement from public office simple and memorable by identifying with the needs and aspirations of the youth and the less privileged in our society. That is what the foundation is all about. “Being the most energetic and active segment of the society, the youths have a great role in shaping the future of any nation, especially at this critical moment. “The quality of youth groomed in any society has a direct correlation with the opportunities provided to them by the privileged few as a way of giving back to the society. “This is the vision behind setting up the Aminu Masari Youth Empowerment Foundation as my humble contribution to humanity,” the governor has said. Masari then urged wealthy individuals in the country to give back to society by supporting youths, women, orphans, and physically challenged persons to become self-reliant and productive. Masari said the foundation would serve as a medium to provide support to the youth in areas of empowerment to reduce redundancy and medical outreach for the less privileged as well as mentorship opportunities through training exercises in various businesses and crafts. Anambra guber: PDP Mobilizes Nigerians Over Seized Case File

…Says Court Judge’s Deviltries Cannot Stop Ozigbo The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) invites Nigerians to call out Justice O.A Nwabunike of the Anambra state High Court, for, again refusing to release the case file as well as copies of his perverted judgment on the Sen. Ugochukwu Uba Vs PDP & Ors. In a statement signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, the party describes the act as vexatious that, upon resumption of court activities today, Justice Nwabunike, remained adamant in withholding the documents, all in his desperate bid to frustrate and distract the PDP and its candidate, in the Anambra state governorship election, Valentine Ozigbo . “The party asserts that the deviltries of the judge, in seizing the documents is aimed at frustrating the notices of appeal filed by the PDP and her candidate against his aberrant judgment, knowing that such black-market judgement cannot stand in appeal. “Our party cautions Justice Nwabunike not to continue to test the will of the generality of the people of Anambra, whose mandate, being expressed in our candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, is being undermined, as such may trigger serious crisis in the state. “It is indeed indefensible, that a court judge is bent at causing crisis in Anambra state and we call on Nigerians and the people of Anambra to hold Justice Nwabunike directly responsible should there be any breakdown of law and order in the state. “In any case, the PDP asserts that it will not be deterred or distracted by Justice Nwabunike and an individual, who did not even participate in our primary, as they cannot stop the people of Anambra state and our candidate, Valentine Ozigbo, from emerging victorious in the election, “Ologbondiyan said.
