ASUU Strike Is A Mission To Rescue Nigeria’s Education From Total Collapse – Ex-Union President

Prof Abiodun Ogunyemi, a former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has accused the ruling class of systematically destroying Nigeria’s education sector. While speaking on Tuesday morning on Channels Television, the university don said ASUU strike was a mission to rescue the country’s education from total destruction. ASUU had on Monday extended its ongoing strike for another 12 weeks. A statement signed by ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said this was to give the government enough time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues. Some of ASUU’s demands include the release of revitalisation funds for universities, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and deployment of the UTAS payment platform for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers. But Ogunyemi said, “The main issue is that we want to rescue Nigeria’s education because what the ruling class is doing is to systematically destroy the education sector. “They have destroyed the public primary, public secondary and what the ruling class are attacking now is the public universities and public tertiary education in general. “I think Nigerians should see this perspective that ASUU is bringing to the table.” He recalled that the negotiation started in 2017 on the core key issues of funding, condition of service, university autonomy, academic freedom and other matters that relate to having qualitative university education in Nigeria. The former union leader lamented that the negotiation had been on for over four years and it was never-ending, adding that a report being claimed to have been submitted by the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, was “empty”. “When you talk about collective bargaining, it is not about consulting individuals in the ministry, it is about the government putting together a team, briefing the team, giving the team a clear mandate to arrive at a proposal that government will review. And if government have any objection to any part of the proposal, the government will express it. “We will also take that same proposal to our members and if our members approve it, then we will bring it back to the negotiating table and sign. That is what we have been doing since 1992, that is the spirit of collective bargaining. “But this is the longest negotiation we have had in our history. They kept us talking, they want to dribble the Nigerian scholars until they leave office and our members have seen through them and that is why they are insisting that unless we have certain deliverables, we have a signed agreement and implementation commences, they are not going to back down on this strike action,” Ogunyemi stressed.

Drama As Gbajabiamila Asks Emefiele’s Rep To Exit Meeting With Aviation Stakeholders

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Monday asked a representative of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Godwin Emeliefe, to leave a meeting with aviation stakeholders. Gbajabiamila said it was incumbent on the Emefiele himself to be present at the meeting as the aviation issue was a matter of national importance. He added that the importance and sensitivity of the meeting required the presence of the CBN governor. Emefiele, who eventually walked into the meeting about 15 minutes later, gave reasons why he had to be represented before his eventual arrival. In his remarks, Speaker Gbajabiamila said the nation was at a crucial moment as the shutdown by the airline operators amounts to a potential shutting down of the country. “We cannot sit here and watch this happen,” he said. “That is why the presence of the CBN governor is very important because his role is very critical to the resolution of this issue.” Airline operators in the country had threatened to shutdown services on Monday over the high cost of aviation fuel. Although the threat was called off on Sunday, Monday’s meeting was focused on finding a permanent solution to the issues raised by the aviation stakeholders.

Over 51,000 Repentant Terrorists, Families In Custody – Military

No fewer than 51,000 repentant terrorists and their families have surrendered to troops serving in various theatres of operation in the North East, the military has said. The Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Chris Musa, disclosed this to Channels Television during the latest edition of News Night which aired on Monday. He explained that residents in the region have been helpful to the military, especially in the area of intelligence gathering despite the communication barrier in some localities. “We get information as quickly as things are happening,” the commander said. “Sometimes, the challenge might probably be the way to communicate because we do not have network everywhere; but as soon as they get to where they can send messages across to us, they let us know. “That has assisted us greatly in subduing the insurgents to such an extent that we have so much peace. We have over 51,000 insurgents and their family members that have surrendered to us.” Nothing To Fear While many individuals and groups perceive the laying down of weapons by insurgents as a sign that the security forces are winning the war, others remain skeptical about the intention of such persons. General Musa, on his part, believes Nigerians, especially residents in the North East have nothing to fear as the military will continue to ensure they are well protected from criminally-minded persons. According to him, the Nigerian Armed Forces has managed situations as such in the past in other countries, and replicating the same approach will be no different this time. The Operation Hadin Kai chief in his words, “Normally there will be some concerns and I don’t blame the public for that, but I just want to assure them that we are professionals and we have done this before … in other countries where we had issues of disarmament. “What goes on here now is that as soon as any of them is willing to surrender, he reports straight to the closest military location. The commander on the ground has his troops ready to disarm them, take over their arms, search them and profile them. “Then the state government provides buses to move them to the camps already provided. The state government takes care of the management and administration, what we do is ensure that the perimeter is secure. So, we want to assure members of the communities that they are well secured and that they (repentant terrorists) will not pose any threat to anybody. Why Surrender Now? Musa, who revealed that the population of repentant terrorists and their families in the military’s custody was recorded in less than a year, gave an insight into what could have prompted the decision to surrender at this time. A lot of them, according to him, were tired of the fight and wanted to come out to lay their arms but could not do so because of the fear of being killed for disloyalty. He added that the leadership tussle within the terrorists’ camp following the death of their leader – Shekau, also created an avenue for willing insurgents to surrender to troops. “I know everybody is asking why are they even surrendering now? For us, the surrendering started since July 2021 and for them to have been there (in the camps) to date shows you some level of commitment and why are they surrendering,” the senior military officer explained. “The death of Shekau has opened a lot of opportunities because while he (Shekau) was there, he was very brutal; anybody who attempts to escape will be killed. They were scared of him (Shekau). “But they knew we would treat them professionally; by the laws of war, once your enemies surrender, you are duty-bound to receive him and treat him humanely until the process of the legal system takes its course, and that is what we are doing.” General Musa also faulted the claims that the military was pampering the repentant persons who played various roles in the over-decade-long insurgency that claimed thousands of lives. Rather, he said, “We are not pampering them; we are just being in line with the statutory laws on the ground and that is why we ensure that all those ones that have been profiled are brought in and kept secure. Out of the over 51,000, 11,000 are males but not all of them are combatants. “Among the males, we have some that were enslaved, those that were born there, and those that were conscripted. Gradually, those are going to be sorted out, and then the legal system will take its course.”

Nnamdi Kanu to appear in court next week Wednesday – Lawyer

The lead Counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, on Tuesday said the next court outing of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, will be on 18 May, 2022 at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Ejiofor disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, after the IPOB legal team had visited the IPOB leader, at the Department of State Services, DSS, in Abuja, last Monday. According to the IPOB legal team, “By the subsisting Court-Order, we visited our Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The visit offered us the opportunity to review the level of the DSS compliance with the positive Court Orders regarding the welfare of Onyendu. “We had fruitful and quite incisive interactions impacting positively on all dimensions of Onyendu’s case, and he was adequately briefed on relevant matters of urgent importance which will remain private. “Onyendu is very firm in his conviction and unshaken in his resolve for a better tomorrow for UmuChineke. He reiterated the fact that UmuChineke must remain vigilant now more than ever, and he advised everyone to be conscious of their engagements. He was very emphatic about being focused and never derailing. As usual, Onyendu expresses his profound gratitude to you all, UmuChineke for remaining strong in your solidarity, unshaken faith, and seemingly resolute.” “Onyendu is particularly enthused about the peaceful conduct of UmuChineke, and consequently, encourages you all to keep it up, and be assured that at the end of the tunnel, there must be light. “Details of our other engagement with contends may not be made public because our adversaries are all over the place trying to sniff for information on our strategies, but we cannot avail them. May we remind UmuChineke, that your prayers are most compelling now, such devotion is not taken for granted. The next Court date is the 18th of May, 2022, keep it in your prayers and your mind,” Ejiofor said.

Why we want Jonathan back in Aso Rock – Fulani Group

Hours after former president Goodluck Jonathan publicly rejected the All Progressive Congress’ presidential expression of interest and nomination forms, Secretary of the Fulani Group, Usman Mohammed, has vowed that Jonathan won’t leave the country without accepting it. The group, which is an extraction of the nomadic Fulani and the Almajiri communities, stormed the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Monday evening to procure the forms. The news of Jonathan purchasing APC presidential forms on Monday got Nigerians pondering if he was truly considering a return to Aso Rock on the platform of the ruling party. Reacting swiftly to the report, the ex-Bayelsa deputy governor dissociated himself from the purported APC presidential form, which he described as an insult. He disclosed in a statement issued on Monday night by his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, that he didn’t authorise the purchase. The statement read, “It has come to our notice that a group has purportedly purchased Presidential Nomination and Expression of Interest forms of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the name of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. “We wish to categorically state that Dr. Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorise it. “We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and will not enter through the back door. “Buying a presidential aspiration form in the name of Dr. Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person.” But hours after Jonathan’s statement disassociating himself from the form, Mohammed told The PUNCH that the nomination was meant to be a surprise gift to the ECOWAS special envoy. The Fulani Group secretary stated that if the ex-president turns down the nomination form as he threatened, they will be left with no option but to force him to accept it. “I believe you are aware of how we blocked his office in the FCT during our rallies in Kano, Suleja, Minna, and Abuja, and forced him to come out to address journalists. It is the same approach. “If he doesn’t accept our form, we won’t let him out of Nigeria,” he said. According to him, the Fulani pastoralists opted for the choice of Jonathan out of the almost 30 APC presidential candidates because of his patriotism and love for Nigeria. Mohammed explained that his people were compelled to sell their livestock to raise money for the nomination forms because of the development he brought into the Fulani and Almajiri schools. “Jonathan is a Christian with a heart of Muslim. When he was president, he supported Almajiri schools, took care of our children, and fed them in many Northern States. “The money for the nomination form was contributed by Fulani cattle rearers in the country. We saw some media reporting Miyetti Allah or Northern Youths. That’s not true. “Besides, he is the most experienced of all the APC presidential candidates. None of the other candidates has ever been president of the country, including Tinubu. “He is a man who loves Nigerians and loves other people’s children more than his own. We need him to continue with his Almajiri school project, especially in Kano where we have over three million of these students. None of them bought uniforms with their money,” he said.

We didn’t purchase APC presidential form for Jonathan – Miyetti Allah

Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has denied media reports it obtained the All Progressives Congress(APC) presidential form for former President Goodluck Jonathan. It said it did not and will not buy any form for any candidate contesting the 2023 general elections. The association said it has far higher needs for money to assist its members being uprooted and killed in the South East and several other States than buying forms for politicians. Its National Secretary MACBAN, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, in a statement in Abuja said the association will support a candidate that shows commitment to end the suffering of its members after the conclusion of party primaries. He said: “The attention of MACBAN has been drawn to a trending story in which we are being quoted as having bought a presidential nomination form for former President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2023 elections. “We wish to make it clear that MACBAN did not and will not buy any form for any Candidate contesting elections. “MACBAN does not see any gain in this kind of profligate enterprise that adds no value to the million of our members who are wallowing in poverty as a result of banditry, cattle rustling and the dastardly activities of self appointed vigilantes who for all intent and purpose are committed to executing genocide. “We believe politics should be left to politicians, we see no mileage in supporting any politician when we are overwhelmed by the crisis being faced by our members Nationwide. “We call on the media to take their time to understand the difference between the various fulbe organisations and avoid dragging us into political mud”.

Despite form denial, Jonathan meets Adamu, prepares to run on APC ticket

Amidst attempt by loyalists of former president Goodluck Jonathan to stop him from running on the All Progressives Congress ticket, the former president, has formally met with the National Chairman of the ruling party in Abuja, apparently to clarify some grey areas regarding his candidacy. Former President Jonathan, who was reported to have rejected a N100 million nomination form procured for him by some Fulani pastoralists, later met behind closed doors in Adamu’s house. A source close to the former president said that the meeting, whose details were not made public, lasted between 9pm and 10 pm in a bid to sort out some grey issues regarding Jonathan’s bid to fly the party’s presidential flag in next year’s poll. It was learnt that the confusion that trailed the purchase of the form for Jonathan arose because of the spirited efforts by his core loyalists in the People Democratic Party, PDP, to dissuade him from joining the APC and running on its platform, saying that such would be detrimental to opposition party and belittling of his image. According to a reliable source, the former president had concluded plans to accept the nomination form and meet with the APC leadership since Sunday morning but was strongly prevailed upon by those seen as his ‘inner caucus friends’ to shelve the move and remain in the PDP even without being active in the party. “These people have been pressurizing Jonathan until the very last minute not to accept to run on the APC ticket no matter how tempting the conditions may be. That was why the former president did not present himself to the APC National chairman on Sunday when the form was to be formally presented to him by the Almajiri who want to show him appreciation for what he did for them during his tenure by building schools and rehabilitating them,” the source said. “The main argument of those opposed to Jonathan running on the APC ticket is that it would be belittling to his image and standing in the world for him to do so given where he had been and what he represents as a former president of Nigeria. But the point is that the deadline for picking the form is this week and if he does not accept the form, the window would be closed and the opportunity lost,” one source explained. “That was why the former president had to meet Adamu last night and their meeting was very productive as both men came out happily at the end of the one-hour meeting in Adamu’s house in Abuja,” the source explained. It will be recalled that following the purchase of the form for Jonathan, his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, had described the action as insulting and unacceptable to Jonathan, saying that he was not consulted. But a close source confirmed last night that Jonathan was moving ahead with the plan to run on the APC ticket. Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has called for prayers and support of Nigerians to enable him succeed on the task ahead of him Adamu, represented by the Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, at the APC Stakeholders valedictory session in Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone harped on unity of party members noting that that APC would provide a level playing ground for all its aspirants at the forth coming primary elections. The APC chairman urged aspirants to accept the outcome of the forth coming primaries in good faith, unite and work for the success of the party beyond 2023, assured that the party will provide a level playing ground for all. “I want to appeal to all aspirants to accept the results of the primary election in good faith and not to leave the party but stay to build it to succeed and rule beyond 2023. There is surely a reward for every loyal party member.” Source: VANGUARD

Fuel queues persist in Abuja, black marketers sell for N300/litre

Fuel queues persisted in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday as filling stations struggled to control desperate drivers waiting to buy the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, at the official price. Racketeers had a field day, selling a litre of PMS at N300 in different parts of the FCT. In Kubwa, a litre of fuel went as high as N320, rising to N400 in Asokoro and other prime parts of Abuja, The PUNCH gathered. One of the racketeers, who identified himself as Usman, said he stored fuel in several gallons, with the belief that fuel would be scarce at some point in the future. Another racketeer, Bala, claimed that he was still selling his reserves. “When there is scarcity, I buy from some filling stations at night. I usually pay extra N200 or more for a 10-litre gallon. I buy at N 2000 and sell N3,500,” he said. Vehicle drivers told The Punch that they spent between two and four hours at various filling stations before buying PMS. A commercial vehicle driver, George Akinsanya, said he spent three hours at Oando Filling Station opposite the NNPC depot in Abuja before buying the PMS. Akinsanya said, “We need to find a solution to this perennial problem of fuel scarcity. It is looking like filling stations are looking for this type of opportunity to make money. Last time there was fuel scarcity, they sold at higher prices at night and limit sales to one or two pumps in the day.” A driver, Mr Udoka Uzondu, who said he waited to buy PMS at an NNPC depot in Abuja, urged the government to put an end to the scarcity to reduce the plight of the common man.” Fuel queues have become a recurring decimal in Nigeria, especially the FCT. In the first quarter of the year, fuel scarcity disrupted economic activities, leading to an increase in inflation to 15.92 per cent, from 15.70 per cent. The PUNCH reported on Monday that most filling stations in Abuja and neighbouring states of Nasarawa and Niger that dispensed Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, were on Sunday greeted with long queues. It was observed that many other outlets were shut as they claimed not to have products to dispense, a development that led to the crowding of the filling stations that dispensed the commodity. Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has ascribed the sudden appearance of fuel queues in parts of Abuja to low loadouts and increased purchases that characterise post-holiday periods. In a statement, the spokesman for NNPC, Garba Deen Muhammad, said on Monday that the company had sufficient fuel supplies to satisfy the demands of Abuja residents for over six weeks. The statement partly read in part, “The NNPC Ltd notes the sudden appearance of fuel queues in parts of Abuja. This is very likely due to low loadouts at depots which usually happen during long public holidays, in this case, the Sallah celebrations. “Another contributing factor to the sudden appearances of queues is the increased fuel purchases which are also usual with returning residents of the FCT from the public holidays.” He further said the NNPC and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, in conjunction with our marketing partners, had taken necessary measures to ramp up loadouts from all depots. He assured all residents of the FCT and Nigerians that NNPC had ample local supplies and national stock in excess of 2.5 billion liters, with the sufficiency of more than 43 days. “The NNPC Limited hereby advises motorists not to engage in panic buying as supplies are adequate as will become increasingly evident in the coming days.” But the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Promotion of Private Enterprise, Dr Muda Yusuf, urged the Federal Government to deregulate the industry to avoid long queue recurrences.

2023: Opportunistic aspirants and the gullible public

By Dakuku Peterside THE holy grail of democracy is the widespread participation of people in the business of power, legitimised by the representation of elected leaders. Participation is so meaningful that the noun derivative of democracy, democratisation, means “the action of making something accessible to everyone”. ADVERTISING So, on face value, the democratisation of “presidential aspiration” seems to be a good thing, and one may argue that this might throw up a pool of aspirants for the primaries for the people to choose, but the reality may be more sinister and a bad omen for our democracy. The presidential aspirants’ field is getting crowded – the good, the bad, and the ugly are throwing their hats into the ring. In the past few weeks, more and more persons have indicated an interest in running on the platform of the two major political parties against all odds, including outrageous Expression of Interest and Nomination form fees. The statistics of the aspirants for the two leading parties keep changing each day. APC has 23 presidential aspirants with a possibility of getting to 25 by the close of nominations and 241 Senate aspirants with a chance of getting to 300 at the close of nominations. We have 821 House of Representatives aspirants with a possibility of getting to 1,000. For PDP, about 17 presidential aspirants, 301 Senate aspirants and 1218 House of Representative aspirants have declared their interest in the various posts for the 2023 general election and have already presented themselves for screening. Never in the history of our democracy have many aspirants, at short notice, declared interest in occupying the highest position in the country than in this run-up to the 2023 elections. arty nomination cost; tickets for sale? Democracy: Beyond symbolism and drama Whither Nigeria: 6 months to election, where are the presidential aspirants? The rash of aspirants is a symptom of too many negatives. Let us grant that democracy entitles every citizen to aspire to any position. We can even further concede that the sheer volume of aspirants to various elective positions could indicate a deepening of the popularity of democracy in our country. Yet the sheer number, nature and character of most aspirants give us a cause for concern. A few pertinent questions come to mind: What socio-political context is pushing this new phenomenon, and what does it portend to our democracy in general and the 2023 general elections in particular? Three major issues are working in tandem to fuel the rush for nomination for the presidential ticket and other elective offices. The first is the commercialisation of political offices in Nigeria. Politics is big business, and everyone knows that. For the majority, the most accessible means to inexplicable wealth and power in Nigeria today is to hold a political office. Related to this is elite joblessness, making politics the most lucrative openly available sector. The elite total engrossment in politics for economic survival is a breeding ground for rampant corruption. This transactional nature of politics means that no matter the outrageous cost of nomination forms and electioneering, the political elite is hard done, doing whatever it takes and at all costs to have access to these offices. The second issue, especially for the offices of the president and governor, is what I will refer to as the demystification of these hallowed offices. Pre-independence and during the second republic, the people revered the president’s and governor’s offices. We expected only people of a certain calibre, political dexterity, and intellectual integrity to even dream of applying for the office; much more to attempt to do. Unfortunately, recently, each election cycle inadvertently produces a declining quality of political leadership, which lowers the bar for those aspiring to occupy the office and causes public mistrust of officeholders. The bar is so low now that people with no pedigree or experience in leadership, even in their homes, are aspiring to the president’s office. The third issue is deliberate positioning to profit from political consensus. The two major political parties in Nigeria lack a deep culture of internal democracy, cohesion and unity, and this anomaly is because they are not ideologically driven, and there are intraparty frictions among party members. It is becoming common for political parties to resort to a democratic consensus to adopt candidates and avoid the ensuing brouhaha. Therefore, negotiations, deals, and rewards are given to those candidates at the table to arrive at this consensus. So, the rush to purchase the N40 million or N100 million nomination forms may mean some aspirants buying a ticket to the negotiating table, where some would be asked to step down and promised rewards. And to be relevant, you must purchase your way to that table where the final act would play out before the convention, which may end in consensus or affirmation. Another plausible reason for the proliferation of aspirants is not unconnected to a strategy by a tiny clique of serious aspirants to weaken the delegates’ base of their co-competitors. Political entrepreneurs around the presidency and commanding height of the two major political parties may also be manipulating the internal process of the parties to enable them to achieve a predetermined outcome. These happenings have grave consequences for our democracy and the 2023 general election. The presidential aspirants’ field in the two major political parties has thrown up what I refer to as opportunists. Some of these aspirants had earlier indicated an interest in Senate, governorship or were hitherto not interested in the office but now are presidential aspirants. They are opportunists who just saw an opening to take advantage of for varied reasons. A critical analysis of the character and qualities of some of these opportunistic aspirants shows traits that are worrisome to any true lover of democracy. These people put our democracy at risk. We can easily deduce the enormous implications of these on politics and society. If those who always put themselves out to take up public office are so utterly bereft of character and the

N1.8bn debt: AMCON takes over Aeroland Travels’ assets

THE Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria said it had taken over assets belonging to Aeroland Travels Limited, and its directors over indebtedness of N1.8bn. A statement from AMCON spokesperson, Jude Nwauzor, said this was sequel to the order of Honourable Justice D.E. Osiagor of the Federal High Court, Lagos Division. It stated that, “It would be recalled that Justice Osiagor gave the ruling on February 7, 2022, and in compliance to the enforcement order of the court, AMCON put logistics together, and on Friday, May 6, 2022, took effective possession of the nine properties as listed by the court through its debt recovery agent – Robert Ohuoba & Co. “The properties include those situated at Plot 4 & 4B Block 66 Magodo Scheme, Lagos State; Plot 9, Block 44c, Adetoro Adelaja Street, Magodo Lagos; No. 4C Maye Ogundana Street, Magodo Lagos; No. 10 Oluyomi Oshinkoya Street, Magodo Residential Scheme, Lagos; Plot 8, Block 66, Residential Scheme, Sangisha, Lagos; No. 2A John Olugbo Street, Ikeja, Lagos; No. 2 Fadeyi Street, off Awolowo way, Ikeja, Lagos; No. 8 Surulere Alelor Street, Millenium, Gbagada; and No. 14 Jerry Iriabe Street, off Bashorun Okunsanya, off Admiralty Road, Lekki Penisula.” The statement said the court also ordered the freezing of the bank accounts and shares of the company’s directors, including Mr Segun Adewale and Mrs Victoria Adewale. It added that the court additionally granted AMCON rights to seize any other landed property in any other place that might be found within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court belonging to Aeroland Travels Limited or either of its directors. Nwauzor said all the property as listed in the court order had been taken over by AMCON with the assistance of court bailiffs and other officials of the law. The statement said, “AMCON had purchased the non-performing loan of Aeroland Travels Limited from Polaris Bank (formerly Skye Bank) in 2018. “Until the coming of the order of the court, all previous efforts by AMCON and its representatives to resolve the debt amicably with the obligor had proved abortive, which was why the corporation resorted to the court for justice.” Meanwhile, the owner of Aeroland conglomerates, Otunba Segun Adewale, has accused AMCON of illegally sending policemen to seal his business premises over an alleged debt to Polaris Bank. In a statement made available to our correspondent, Adewale said he was surprised to see police officers invading the premises of his air travel agency located on John Olugbo Street, Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, ordering him and his workers out over an allegation that he was owing the bank some money. On the contrary, Adewale claimed that Polaris Bank had refused to grant him access to his N1.77bn in the bank shortly after the 2015 Lagos West Senatorial Election. The businessman claimed that he took the bank to court in 2018 over his seized money and that neither the officials of the bank nor its lawyers appeared in court, only for them to accuse him of owing them and got an exparte order to seal his property. “We will approach the court and the judge would see to the matter. They swore to an oath and lied, when they ought to pay me my money,” he said.
