Femi Adesina hits Oyedepo for calling Buhari government ‘most corrupt’

Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, says David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, is “blinded by hatred” for President Muhammadu Buhari. Adesina said this in a post on his Twitter handle on Tuesday. Speaking at a church service on Monday, Oyedepo described Buhari’s government as the “most wicked and corrupt” in the history of Nigeria. He accused the government of not caring about the welfare of the citizens, especially students.   He also made what appeared to be a reference to the probe of the accountant-general of the federation over alleged N80 billion fraud, adding that such an amount could have been channeled to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). “Many children are out of school. There is nothing to pay to get them to school. We saw some folks in Covenant that we had to help out to graduate. N30,000, first class graduates can’t get the money under this wicked government, selfish, self-centered,” Oyedepo said. “What a fight against corruption. You were all deceived. You can’t be in corruption and fight corruption — the most corrupt regime in the history of Nigeria. “You heard of auditor-general, N80 billion. All they need to pay for the universities to be up and running is less than N80 billion. Are they interested? Their children are not there.” In response, Adesina asked Oyedepo to go and get his facts right on the difference between auditor-general and accountant-general. “The bishop at Ota can’t even get his facts right. Blinded by hatred for PMB, he says Auditor General stole N80bn. Pity! He doesn’t know difference between Accountant General (only alleged) and Auditor General. Like OBJ said long ago, we should begin to ordain our own bishops,” he tweeted.

Why FG should remove fuel subsidy — Soludo

Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has kicked against retention of fuel subsidy in Nigeria. This was even as the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Limited said payments for petrol subsidy cost the Federation Account N1.217 trillion in the first five months of 2022. However, Soludo, noted that fuel subsidy should be charged from the federal government and not subnational states. He also argued that the subsidy ought to have been removed ‘like yesterday,’ adding that its non-removal could cause the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to spill money. Soludo, who made his intentions known at the launch of the Nigeria Development Update, NDU, by the World Bank group in Abuja yesterday, emphasised that the solutions to Nigeria’s problems were obvious and not far-fetched. Specifically, he said: “Federal government decides that it wants to subsidise Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, why do you have to charge it from the subnational states? You should charge it from the revenue of the federal government. “We need to have this conversation, the politics, and structure of the government and so on. We cannot do the same thing over and over again and expect the same result; it’s not going to happen. We’ve had this analysis for a decade, the same analysis and conclusions of what to do. “Remove this subsidy like yesterday, this ought to have been removed like yesterday. If we continue with the subsidy, Central Bank will continue to spill money. The solutions are pretty obvious. What we need to do is to be committed to it.” NDU report Meanwhile, the NDU report sighted by Vanguard, disclosed that a higher inflation rate had pushed about 15 million more Nigerians into poverty between the 2020 and 2022, while eight million more Nigerians were in poverty between the 2020 and 2021. The report noted that the war in Ukraine added to Nigeria’s woes, as inflationary pressures have increased, with inflation projected to reach 15.5 percent by the end of 2022. “Increased inflationary pressures following the Ukraine war are expected to push even more Nigerians into poverty. ”Before the war, higher inflation pushed an estimated eight million more Nigerians into poverty between 2020 and 2021. In 2021, inflation averaged 17 per cent, undermining Nigeria’s economic recovery by eroding the purchasing power of the most vulnerable households. “We project that the added inflationary pressure emanating from the war in Ukraine could push as many as one million more Nigerians into poverty, on top of the six million already projected before the war. ”Overall, the ‘inflation shock’ is estimated to result in about 15 million more Nigerians living in poverty between 2020 and 2022. “The added inflationary pressure from the war in Ukraine could push as many as one million additional Nigerians into poverty in 2022. Even before the war, inflation in 2022-then projected at 13.5 percent was predicted to push around six million Nigerians into poverty in 2022. “With the war, the higher rate of inflation-projected at 15.5 percent-could push approximately seven million Nigerians into poverty, an additional one million people. The CBN’s inflation target of 6-9 percent, which was not achieved in previous years, remains unlikely to be met in 2022. “The increase in May 2022 in the policy rate by the CBN is an adequate measure. Still, it has occurred in a context in which FX management and development finance at subsidized rates have reduced the effectiveness of monetary policy. “Moreover, financing of the fiscal deficit and trade restrictions by the Central Bank continue fuelling inflationary pressures. Inflation in Nigeria will thus remain among the highest in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2022,” the report stated. NNPC report However, in its May 2022 report to the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee, FAAC, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited disclosed that payments for petrol subsidy cost the Federation Account N1.217 trillion in the first five months of 2022. The Corporation showed that N271 billion was deducted from its expected remittance for the month, bringing to the total deductions for the year to N1.217 trillion for petrol subsidy. NNPC said it would further deduct N874.5 billion from its expected remittance in June. It stated in the report: “The value shortfall on the importation of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, otherwise known as petrol recovered from April 2022 proceeds is N271,125,127.487.58, while the outstanding balance carried forward is N371 billion. “The estimated value shortfall of N874,503,649.643.98 billion (consisting of arrears of N37I billion plus estimated April 2022 value shortfall of N503,313,767,828.14 is to be recovered from May 2022 proceeds due for sharing in the June 2022 FAAC meeting,” the NNPC document said. A breakdown of the deductions so far this year showed that in January N270.83 billion was deducted, February N210.38 billion, March 219.78 billion, April N245.77 billion and May 271 billion. The monthly data for the year for actual petrol subsidy cost showed that N143.72 billion was incurred in January, N253 billion in February, N152 billion in March and N642 billion in April bringing the total for the first four months to N1.190 trillion. This means that in 2022, the Federation Account has not received any proceeds from the export and domestic sales of Federation crude oil. In 2021, N1.573 trillion was deducted by the NNPC from its revenue contribution to the Federation Account for petrol subsidy which it carries in its books as PMS value shortfall or under recovery. The Federal Government had earlier in the year received approval from the National Assembly to spend N4 trillion on petrol subsidy in 2022.

Tenant rapes neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter, commits suicide

A man, identified only as Kayode, has committed suicide after his neighbour’s daughter accused him of raping her twice at their house in the Oja-Amukoko area of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim’s mother, who had a stroke, was taken to the Ikorodu area for treatment. The suspect, who was put in care of the 16-year-old at home, was said to have taken advantage of her. Her father said she accused Kayode of raping her twice, adding that he also seized her phone to prevent her from informing her family members. He said, “My daughter stays with her mother, as both of us are no longer together. My ex-wife had been suffering from a stroke and from what we gathered, she had a neighbour, Kayode, who had been assisting to take care of her. “But when my ex-wife’s sickness worsened, she was taken to Ikorodu for treatment and her daughter also followed her. As time went on, the neighbour had to go there to bring my daughter back to her mother’s house around Campus, Amukoko, so she could continue schooling. “But she suddenly left her mother’s place and came to my place on Ojo Road. She said she wanted to continue staying with me till her mother recovered. About 20 minutes after she came, Kayode also came to my place and started saying he knew my daughter’s behaviour better than I did. “He said if she was no longer staying at her mother’s house, he would have to return her to her mother in Ikorodu since he was the one who brought her home. He also said she came to stay at my place because she wanted freedom to go out and that he never had any agreement with her mother that she would be staying with me.” After speaking with his ex-wife, the victim’s father said Kayode took his daughter back home but a few days later, he received a call from his ex-wife’s younger brother, who told him to go home to rescue his daughter. He said, “I quickly rushed there, but I didn’t meet her at home. I called my ex-wife’s younger brother and he said he would soon join me at the place. “After a few minutes, I saw my daughter and she informed me that Kayode raped her. She said she could not sleep alone in her mother’s apartment and that when she slept at Kayode’s apartment, he raped her twice and seized her phone. “It was when she told Kayode that she wanted to contact her mum that he released his phone to her and instead of calling her mum, she used that opportunity to text her mum’s younger brother. “So, we went to a police station and she explained to the policemen who said they could not hear only our side of the story. We went to pick up Kayode, but didn’t meet him at home. The policemen then directed us to do a medical test at Orege General Hospital. We were also asked to return the next day as they searched for him. “The next day, I received a call that Kayode drank insecticide and died. They found him in the backyard of their house and rushed him to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.” The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said Kayode’s brother reported to the command that he committed suicide. He said, “The father of the girl, 16, reported that his wife’s co-tenant, Kayode, 41, defiled his daughter. After the report was made, policemen were detailed to arrest the suspect, but he was not seen. “The investigation was ongoing when the suspect’s brother came to the station to report that Kayode committed suicide by drinking a substance suspected to be insecticide. The corpse was recovered but later released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.” A consultant psychiatrist at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and founder, Asido Foundation, Dr Jibril Abdulmalik, described the incident as unfortunate. He said, “Some people consider suicide to be a way out of facing shame and embarrassment. His death via suicide is unlikely to give solace to the young girl and her family, as it may not provide closure for them. “But on the other hand, his actions may also be viewed as showing remorse and a form of atonement. The best approach is to ensure that the law takes its course.”

Abducted Anglican Bishop, Wife And Driver Regain Freedom

The Anglican Bishop Rt Rev Aderogba Adeyinka of Jebba Anglican Diocese, Kwara State, his wife and a driver who were abducted on Sunday have regained their freedom. The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday. “The Massive deployment of Police personnel for the operation to rescue the victims and the domination of the entire area by the Police Tactical teams pressurized the abductors into freeing the victims,” the statement read, adding that the victims were released unhurt at about 18:20 pm on Tuesday. The Bishop, his wife and the driver were abducted on Sunday along the new Oyo/Ogbomoso Expressway in Oyo State. Following the abduction, Osifeso said preliminary investigations revealed that before the incident, the victims’ vehicle had developed what seemed like a mechanical fault while traveling from Yewa in Ogun State to Jebba in Kwara. Subsequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations of the Command was directed to oversee the case. According to the PPRO, investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.

Diesel price may hit N1,500/litre, 75% filling stations closed – Marketers

About 75 per cent of filling stations across the country are currently out of business due to their inability to purchase diesel required to power their tankers and transport Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, to their various outlets, oil marketers stated on Tuesday. Marketers also stated that the cost of diesel would keep increasing and might hit N1,500/litre in the next two weeks if nothing drastic was done to curtail the current challenge faced by importers of the deregulated commodity. Dealers under the aegis of the Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association told journalists in Abuja that this was also the reason why petrol scarcity had failed to abate in Abuja and neighbouring Nasarawa and Niger states, among others. Speaking on behalf of the marketers, the National President, NOGASA, Bennett Korie, explained that the only solution to the current challenge was for the Federal Government to raise the pump price of petrol a little in order to reduce the huge foreign exchange used in PMS imports. This, he said, would eventually free up some forex for diesel imports, a development that would impact positively on the rising cost of diesel, stressing that the product was currently sold at N850/litre. He said, “If you go round now you will see that about 75 per cent of filling stations in Nigeria have gone out of business. There is no diesel to take fuel to their stations. All of them are going down. “And it is not that the fuel is not there, but the cost of bringing it to the stations is too high. We know that the crisis between Ukraine and Russia has contributed badly, but the government has to do something fast, otherwise we are going to buy diesel in the next two weeks at N1000 to N1500/litre.” Asked whether anything was being done to address the challenge, Korie replied, “As far as I am concerned nothing for now. The only way out, if you want to know, is that they (the government) should increase the price of fuel a little to reduce the money spent on PMS subsidy. “I know Nigerians will not be happy to hear this, but this is the only solution. They should increase the price of fuel a little so that the savings will enable the Central Bank of Nigeria to have enough foreign exchange. “You and I know that we import everything now in Nigeria. Diesel is an imported product and it is fully deregulated. So the importers are not getting dollars at the official CBN rate to import diesel. Everybody is going to the black market to get dollars to import their products and so you expect the price of diesel to be high.” Korie states that if the government could bring down the rate at which it spends foreign exchange on PMS imports, this would will help other businessmen who import diesel to bring in products at low prices. “So you need to increase fuel price a little in order to ensure that the dollars spent in importing petrol is reduced and there will be enough forex for importers of diesel and this will cut down the price of diesel.” He also stated that this was the major reason why fuel queues had failed to clear in Abuja, as many filling stations lacked the funds to buy diesel at a high cost to run their trucks, transport petrol to the capital city and would still be made to sell PMS at N165/litre. He explained that Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri and other states closer to these areas had no queues because the three named cities had seaports and large depots for loading and distributing petroleum products. Korie said, “The reason why you are having scarcity of petroleum products particularly in Abuja is as a result of the high cost of diesel. The price of diesel today in the market is N850/litre. You will also agree with me that the money being paid as bridging claims to transporters is not enough. “The price is N850/litre and you are giving your driver 1,200 litres from Lagos to Abuja, if you do the calculation you will find out that the landing cost (for transporting the fuel) is about N40/litre. “So if you add that to PMS, buying at the depot price and selling here, it is too high. So if your cost of bringing it in is at N40/litre and you bought it at N155/litre, when you add this you will get N195/litre. But you are to sell at N165/litre. So who will do that kind of business? It is already a loss-making business.” Economic experts and operators in the oil sector had repeatedly called on the Federal Government to stop subsidising petrol in order to halt the humungous foreign exchange spent on its imports. A former President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, Dr. Sam Nzekwe, told our correspondent that petrol subsidy was eating deep into the finances of Nigeria. “Petrol subsidy is eating deep into our national treasury. It is affecting almost every aspect of the economy, because so much forex is used for its imports. It has to be stopped, but we must get our refineries working,” Nzekwe said. Also, the Chief Executive Officer, Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise, Dr. Muda Yusuf, has also told our correspondent that subsidy in petrol should be cautiously and gradually removed based on its depleting effects on both federal and state governments’ revenues.

VP slot: PDP c’ttee picks Wike; Tinubu’ll decide, says Imo gov

If what transpired at the meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party Selection Committee, saddled with the responsibility of recommending a running mate for its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is anything to go by, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, will be picked as the party’s vice-presidential candidate. The committee sources told Vanguard, recommended the Rivers State governor after 13 of 17 members, who attended the meeting at the PDP National Secretariat, yesterday, voted in favour of Wike, three voted for others, while the chairman who can only vote when there is a tie did not vote. This came on the day Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, told journalists that the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will decide who his running mate would be. Meanwhile, the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria has warned the APC against fielding a Muslim-Muslim ticket, saying it would not augur well for peace and unity in the country. How the PDP committee chose Wike The source said: “The panel initially trimmed the list to three — Nyesom Wike, Ifeanyi Okowa, and Udom Emmanuel. When the names were subjected to further scrutiny and put to vote, 16 out of 19 voted in Wike’s favour. With his track record of loyalty to the party and performance at our just-concluded presidential primaries, most of us felt this is the right thing to do.” Another party source told the Vanguard that the party equally took a cue from the United States where “Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris as running mate after he defeated her in the Democratic Party presidential primary in a bid to unite the party.” Wike scored 237 against the 371 delegate votes at the PDP presidential primary secured by Atiku, who won the nomination. However, the final decision on the eventual running mate remains the prerogative of the party candidate who is currently out of the country. Earlier in his remarks, the National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, expressed confidence that the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will on or before Friday, present a running mate Nigerians will relate well with and vote into office. Meanwhile, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, yesterday warned against actions capable of endangering national unity and cohesion Speaking to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the governor said the choice of the running mate would be decided by Tinubu and not APC governors. He said if the choice was left to him, he would consider religious denomination, ethnicity, followership, and factors that would create spread since the business of politics was to win elections. Fielding a question on Muslim-Muslim tickets and the choice of a running mate, he said: “There are internal characteristics that the decision-maker may consider in the process of making his decision. The decision whether to choose Mr A or Mr B to be a running mate to a candidate is entirely that of the candidate. “You started by saying the governors of the Sout- East are complaining of not having the opportunity of being a running mate anymore. But that is not the sole ambition of Southeasterners, talkless of the governors. In the business of presidential primaries, there is no election for a vice-presidential candidate. The business there is just to elect a candidate. “In that ballot paper, there is no room for delegates to vote for who will be your running mate. So, that explains why it is not a decision for the public. It is the decision of the candidate. The first thing to do is to let the candidate. Now a candidate has emerged. “Now the candidate will factor into consideration some ideas and issues like how to create a spread. Spread is very important to be able to attract votes. So, the decision of who becomes your running mate, if I were the candidate, what will inform it is an action that will enable me to get the kind of votes I’m looking for because the ultimate goal is to win the election. “So, maybe I’ll start from the denomination, ethnicity, or followership. In this business of democracy, I think the number is what is very important. And there are certain things as a nation, we should not bring to the public discourse. “Those things that are capable of creating divisiveness against national unity should not be encouraged. It does not mean that I will not remember that I come from a place but I must also be cautious about how to use where I come from in taking national decisions. “The second question which is about a running mate, South-East is not meant for running mate. What we wanted as a zone was to be the president of Nigeria and I was convinced that it was proper for us to ask for it. But in this business, it is partisan democracy, the minority will have their view but the majority will have their way. In the wisdom of the delegates that elected presidential candidate, a candidate has emerged, our party APC will come together, work for our candidate and produce the next president.” When asked to comment on the alleged move by Tinubu to run with a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the Imo governor argued that the Nigerian Constitution does not dwell on religion as a factor in the selection of a presidential running mate. He said: “There is nowhere in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria where religion is a factor or characteristic as to who becomes the president or who becomes the running mate. “But we are looking for a united Nigeria where governance will be the issue, where a president would be adjudged by his capacity to deliver democratic dividends, develop Nigeria to look like other parts of the Western world where democracy is working. “I don’t want us to reduce governance in Nigeria to certain things that will encourage divisiveness.

2023: Okowa may emerge Atiku’s running mate

As political parties gear up to fill in the slot of the vice-presidential positions for the 2023 elections, the Peoples Democratic Party standard-bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is said to have lowered his search to one person for deliberation as his running mate. Sources told our correspondent that Atiku’s supporters were zeroing on the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, for the position of the vice president. Except for a final-minute change, Okowa may be eventually unveiled as Atiku’s running mate, an authoritative source confided in The PUNCH on the condition of anonymity. Okowa had played a prominent role in Atiku’s emergence as the standard-bearer of the PDP during the party’s convention last May. This also gave the Delta State governor an upper hand to be recognised and tipped for the position. A source said, “Okowa mobilised resources for us during the primary. He is the preferred contender even though others are making case for (Nyesom) Wike and (Emmanuel) Udom.” In the meantime, the report of a PDP committee, including governors, members of the National Working Committee, and the Board of Trustees, put in place to search for a suitable running mate for the party is expected to be ready today, Tuesday. In his reaction, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologbunagba, did not give any specifics but said that a decision would be taken after consultations were concluded anytime within the week. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, parties have until June 17, 2022, as the final day for the submission of candidates for the presidential election.

Buhari meets APC governors to discuss Tinubu’s running mate

President Muhammadu Buhari met with governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to discuss the choice of running mate of Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, on Tuesday. The meeting was held at the presidential villa in the federal capital territory (FCT). Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi governor and chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), led his colleagues into the meeting with the president. Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to the president; Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, and Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, were among those present at the meeting.   Last week, Bola Tinubu campaign organisation said the APC governors are at liberty to pick a running mate for Tinubu. Bayo Onanuga, spokesman of the campaign organisation, said Tinubu’s running mate can come from any geo-political zone and religion. “The vice-president can come from any region and religion. But the PGF is at liberty to pick. Up till now, we are all aware that Atiku has not chosen a VP,” Onanuga had said.   “Yet, he was elected before him. But in our own case, it is a party affair. “The party leaders will look at the chances and decide how they will balance a Muslim from the south, maybe with somebody that comes from north-east, north-central or from north-west. “That is how it is done. I cannot circumvent the party.”

Be security conscious, vigilant – IPOB urges South East residents

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has alerted residents of Southeast region to be vigilant against marauding bandits attacking and killing innocent people in churches and homes. The separatist group urged the people to be cautious of strangers that may disguised as worshippers, with the evil agenda of attacking them in churches and markets. with the evil agenda of attacking them in churches and markets. According to the group, church and market leaders should beef up security while everyone should return their homes early, warning that they should not fall for any deceit of killer Fulani that have flooded Abia State and other parts of the region. IPOB disclosed these in a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful on Tuesday. It reads: “Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our prophet and indefatigable liberator Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu has deemed it necessary to once again alert the Christians and the general public that Fulani people has devised another means of attack against Christians, churches and non-Muslims in Biafraland. “The information contained in the intel received from our intelligence unit “the M.Branch” that the Nigerian government is transferring bandits and terrorists as ostensible Christians into the Eastern region of Nigeria in readiness to replicate similar or deadlier terrorists act that was unleashed in Owo Catholic Church, Ondo State. “We advise Christians and other religious leaders to sit up, be at alert and be security conscious as strange seeming worshippers of non-Igbo ethnicity would infiltrate their midst to commit havoc. They must be on the lookout for Fulani looking persons that may come to join them in pretence as converted Christians, do not also be deceived into thinking that Fulanis don’t speak Igbo, dress like Igbo and behaves like indigenes because they do. So many of them were born and brought up in Igbo-land and they know not just all nooks and crannies, they also understand all events and their seasons. “These terrorists and bandits has flooded Biafraland especially the commercial cities like Aba, others in Abia State where Pastor Kumuyi had chosen for his aborted crusade. “They parade themselves as having converted to Christianity and are being rejected by their Muslim families in the North, which for us is “tragedy waiting to happen”. “They now attach Christian names to their names as religious tricks to have you accept them. Examples Emmanuel Kabiru Sule, Mathew Christian Shehu, John Lewis Katsina and others. “They tell very pathetic stories that touch the heart of people of conscience like the Igbos. Please don’t allow them they are terrorists and bandits. Christians in Biafraland should know that they are the next target and they must take absolute security precautions as their plans are deadlier than can be imagined. “Churches must introduce tighter and properly detailed security measures, Do not fall for this Fulani hoodwink, they’re in our midst now. Always return home early, recognize and note the people and things around you. “All markets leaders are advised to beef up their securities because markets where our people stay and do business are another important target for Fulani bandits they have encircled everywhere but they will fail and nobody should entertain fear because IPOB/ESN are waiting for them, however be sure to take precautionary measures.” The statement reads further, “Don’t be quick to point or direct a stranger to your Pastor and your reverend fathers or rabbi or any other worker in your church. In the meantime, avoid night out and late night meetings and programmes. Dangers ahead are too enormous, be ready for what is to come Biafrans and report suspected movements to IPOB office around you, we must bring them down they will not succeed. “We have been encountering some of them at nights and day, carrying Security jobs beyond your imagination. Everybody be watchful.”

Keyamo Asks Moghalu To Join APC, Says Third Force Are Untested Nigerians

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has asked a presidential aspirant, Kingsley Moghalu to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). He made the appeal in a tweet on Monday following the announcement by Moghalu that he had resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Moghalu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), exited the ADC after losing the party’s presidential ticket to the founder of Roots Television, Mr Dumebi Kachikwu. In a letter dated June 13 and addressed to ADC’s National Chairman, Okey Nwosu, he explained that the presidential primary had been wrought with inconsistencies.   “I have resigned because the process and conduct of the party’s presidential primary on June 8, 2022, at Abeokuta revealed a fundamental clash of values between me and your leadership of the party,” the presidential hopeful had said. “As you are well aware, I have consistently resisted pressures to join the APC or the PDP precisely to avoid ‘cash-and-carry” politics. For me to remain a member of the ADC therefore, after what thousands of party members participated in at Abeokuta, would be to endorse political corruption of a most obscene order.” Reacting to the development, Keyamo, who described Moghalu as his brother, advised the latter to pitch his tent with the ruling APC. According to him, joining the Third Force whom he tagged as a group of untested Nigerians might be worse off than his previous party. “My own dear brother, @MoghaluKingsley, you’ve just seen that the so-called Third Force are just some untested Nigerians who may just be worse off,” said the Senior Advocate of Nigeria. “They’re not from the moon; they’re Nigerians. It’s all sound and fury and nothing more. Welcome to the real world. Please, join us in APC.”
