Nigerians Are Sick And Tired’: Women Group Asks Buhari To Resign

The League of Women Voters has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over his inability to protect the country and mitigate economic suffering. In a statement signed by President and Founder, Dr Esther Uduehi, the group said citizens are sick and tired of the administration’s excuses. The statement cited the attack on the Kuje correctional centre and the recent Owo Church massacre as examples of how the current administration has failed Nigerians.   “Nigerians are sick and tired of sleeping with one eye open with no hope of a better tomorrow from this Government and it is obvious that the Government has collapsed and has nothing other than Pain and sorrow to offer Nigerians,” the group said. See full statement below: Buhari Resign for you and your government have failed! Give us back our Country Being the Subject of a Press Release by League of Women Voters of Nigeria. We have watched with dismay and utter disgust the gradual and total collapse of almost every fabric of governance in Nigeria. The climax being the unrestricted full attack and subduing of Kuje Maximum Prison where the operation was carried out without interception.as well as The audacious attack and shooting of the Presidential Convoy all coming so soon after the the Kaduna Abuja Train attack, killings and kidnapping, coupled with the slaughter of the worshipers in Owo together with the numerous kidnappings and killings of Priests and innocent Nigerians, all point to a break down of governance or government compliance. It is inconceivable that not only was there no resistance by government security apparatus, or perhaps government intelligence were ‘also blindfolded. It is even more alarming that in the midst of all these our President finds fun in globe trotting for flimsiest reasons. The Nigerian Naira has become a joke and useless in the world market while Fuel and Gas are beyond the reach of ordinary Nigerians, sky rocketing the cost of living. Students have been at home and many have forgotten what School is all about. Yet Buhari and his Government find it convenient to fish out lies as if nothing has happened for Nigerians to worry about. Nigerians have had nothing cheering since this administration. Nigerians are sick and tired of sleeping with one eye open with no hope of a better tomorrow from this Government and it is obvious that the Government has collapsed and has nothing other than Pain and sorrow to offer Nigerians. We therefore call on Buhari and his Government to Resign and Return our Nation to us instead of swearing in New Ministers. He should hand over to the Civil Servants with the Mandate to Conduct the Elections within the Next Six Months as we are sure that this Government is incapable of Conducting any Meaningful Election. We are sure that our Call is guided by the Principle of Reality and the Need to keep Nigerians in one piece before the Elections Dame Dr Esther Uduehi, President/ Founder

Catholic priest kidnapped in Benue

The Parish Priest of Holy Ghost Parish, Eke-Olengbeche, Reverend Father Peter Amodu was Tuesday evening reportedly kidnapped by unknown armed men along Otukpo – Ugbokolo road, Okpokwu Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state. It was gathered that Father Amodu who is a Priest of the Holy Ghost Congregation in the Catholic Dioceses of Otukpo was waylaid and taken away by his abductors while on his way to celebrate the Holy Mass at Okwungaga, Ugbokolo in Okpokwu LGA. The abduction of the Priest is coming on the heels of similar incidents on that axis of the state where commuters and local farmers had in the last few weeks fallen victim to the armed men who were said to have taken over the forests along the Ogbadibo and Okpokwu LGAs of the state. The kidnap of the cleric was confirmed by the Diocese of Otukpo in a statement issued Thursday by the Diocesan Chancellor, Reverend Father Joseph Aboyi Itodo. Part of the statement read, “we write to notify you of the kidnap of Reverend Father Peter Amodu, a priest of the Holy Ghost Congregation who is working in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo as Parish Priest of Holy Ghost Parish, Eke-Olengbeche. “The sad incident occurred July 6, 2022 at about 5pm along Otukpo – Ugbokolo Road, Benue State, while he was on his way to celebrate the Holy Mass at Okwungaga-Ugbokolo. “The Local Ordinary, Most Rev. Michael Ekwoyi Apochi, has called on all Christ’s Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Otukpo and beyond to earnestly pray for his quick and safe release as we intensify efforts to ensure his release. “We commend our brother and all those in the kidnappers’ den to the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary for their speedy and safe release from the hands of their abductors.” In his reaction, the Director of Communications Otukpo Dioceses. Reverend Father John Okpotu said the abductors had not opened discussions with the church and the family of the Priest. Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, Catherine Anene said she was yet to get details of the incident.

Kuje attack: Appropriate actions will be taken if complicity is established, says Aregbesola

Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, says “appropriate actions” will be taken if complicity is established in the ongoing investigation into the attack on the correctional facility in Kuje. On Tuesday night, gunmen attacked the facility, which is located in the federal capital territory (FCT), and over 500 prisoners — including “all Boko Haram suspects” — reportedly escaped. Four inmates died in the incident, while an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was also killed. The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.   Speaking on the incident in a statement issued on Thursday by Sola Fasure, his media adviser, Aregbesola said after the attack on a correctional facility in Oyo state in October 2021, steps were taken to improve security around correctional centres. He, however, added that the correctional facility formations have been directed to “fortify” centres across the country to prevent future invasions. “After the Abolongo, Oyo State, attack on a correctional facility, in October last year, it became apparent that a new form of attack for which our system was not prepared for had emerged. Our system was primed to prevent and foil internal disturbance and riots, not external attacks/invasion, since the facilities were usually built around police and military formations,” the statement reads.   “The minister then directed that the NCoS urgently work with other security agencies to fortify all correctional centres in the country and insulate them against future attacks, among other measures introduced. “This was carried out, as well armed soldiers, police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers were drafted to our facilities nationwide, to secure them against further attacks. Several but unsuccessful attempts were made to attack our facilities since then, as the armed guards repelled them on each occasion. “We are working with the Ministry of Defence and the Office of the National Security Adviser as well as other intelligence and security agencies to ensure that the attackers and the escaped inmates are captured and returned to custody. As we speak, security personnel are combing the whole area, up to a distance of 100 kilometres radius, looking for them. All checkpoints nationwide have been put on alert. More than 400 of them have been brought in and more are still coming. “The Minister has directed that all correctional facilities in the country be fortified; that all personnel be vigilant and alert, to avoid recurrence.   “The Minister has directed that full investigation into the incident be carried out and he should be briefed as soon as possible. If any complicity is established, the Minister has promised that appropriate actions would be taken.” Aregbesola also urged the public to report any suspicious occurrences or persons in their neighbourhoods, and asked medical personnel to “treat and then immediately report anyone with gunshot wounds to the law enforcement agency”.

ADC youth leader dumps party with over 50,000 loyalists

National Youth Leader of the African Democratic Congress, Barr. Maurice Ebam, on Thursday, resigned his membership with about 50,000 loyalists. Ebam’s resignation is coming about three weeks after the presidential aspirant of the party, Kingsley Moghalu, dumped the party over alleged poor handling of the primary elections held in Abeokuta. According to a letter which was made available to our correspondent and addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Ebam said the party had been a training ground for him. The letter read, “The ADC DNA is in my system. ADC has been a learning school for me. I did not just serve; I also learnt. It is a platform that has given opportunities to young people who are willing and I was given an opportunity to serve. It is clearly documented and posterity bears witness. “It is with mixed feelings that I resign my membership of ADC. While serving both as a member and youth leader, I sacrificed my time and resources, and even put my career on the hold willingly and selflessly for the cause of nation-building with ADC as the platform. Now it’s time to contribute to nation-building, albeit on another platform.” Ebam promised to provide relevant assistance, revealing that he would leave the party with his foot soldiers. “I have gathered over 50,000 passionate, organic and dedicated grassroot youths that will be moving with me following my consultation with youths from diverse strata, and various youth movements, and we have all unanimously concluded that decamping from ADC is the best option at this time. “This is not a goodbye letter, as I will be available to render assistance to the best of my ability when beckoned on. Please, accept the assurance of my best wishes,” Ebam added.

BREAKING: Notorious Kidnap Kingpin, Wadume Among Escapees After Kuje Prison Attack

Notorious kidnapper and gunrunner, Hamisu Wadume, is said to be among the escapees of Tuesday night attack on Kuje prison by terrorists. Wadume, who was remanded in custody at Kuje prison, for armed robbery, kidnaping and gun running after his arrest by operatives of the Intelligence Response Team(IRT), has not been found since after the attack on the facility. The suspect who has been in custody at Kuje prisons since 2020, was not among prisoners recaptured by the security agencies. Recalled that Hamisu Wadume, was arrested by IRT operatives in Taraba for terrorizing people of the state with his criminal activities. But the IRT operatives came under heavy firing by soldiers of 93 Battalion, Takum, in Taraba state, killing three police officers and one civilian staff in the process. The soldiers who also rescued Wadume, from the IRT operatives were said to have carried out the operations on the orders of their commanding officer, Major Balarabe. The killing of the police officers drew condemnation from the public. The suspects was later rearrested by the operatives at Kano and brought to Abuja, and charged to court, where he was remanded in prison custody.

Kwankwaso misrepresents, disrespects North, says group

A group, the Arewa Youths Progressive Alliance, has dissociated itself from a comment credited to the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that voters from the North would only vote for the region’s presidential candidates. But the spokesman of the group, Alhaji Sambo Galadima, noted that “the North is neither anti-progress nor xenophobic against other Nigerians.” In a statement released in Kaduna on Thursday, Galadima said that the impression created by the former Governor of Kano State was not only disrespectful to the region but misrepresented the true characters of an average northern voter. Picking holes in the assertion by the NNPP presidential candidate who spoke on Channels TV, the spokesman noted that Kwankwaso’s utterances portrayed the North as retrogressive. “Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwanso’s utterances portray the North as retrogressive and the average northern voter as insensitive and unconcerned about the sufferings of Nigerians and the high rate of insecurity and economic woes bedevilling Nigeria, and rather concerned about having ‘fellow northerner and fellow Muslim’ perpetuate themselves in power. “Nothing can be farther from the truth. The northerner experiences the same level of frustration with the state of governance in the country that the average Nigerian from any part of Nigeria experiences and wishes like every Nigerian that things improve for the better and that the most capable and most prepared individuals take charge of governance at different levels, including the presidency of the country, for the betterment of Nigeria,” he said. He further argued that the North had never been immune to the various troubles bedevilling the country. “Just because a Northerner is the President, has the North fared any better in infrastructure or living standards merely because a Northerner or a Muslim is the President of the country? “The former governor of Kano State insults the North by portraying us as some insensitive group of people without the capacity to think for ourselves. This is not true. He sends the impression out there that our votes are owned by some elites and that it is these elites who will decide how we will vote in every election. “If that was true in the past, that is set to change, because we are not slaves. We are capable of dreaming and holding strongly to our dreams. We are capable of working for and participating actively in political activities, independently and with the aim of bringing about the kind of government that shall serve the best interest of the average Nigerian. “In the last seven years, more than 100,000 Northerners have been killed by bandits and terrorists, and thousands of our daughters, wives, mothers and sisters have either been raped, abducted or forcefully married out. “Our farms are lying fallow and our harvests haven’t been poorer. Yet, a Northerner is the President. We voted for this Northerner, not because he is a Northerner, but because we believed he had the best of intentions and had the capacity to turn things around for good, for the benefit of all Nigerians. But, we are disappointed,” he stated. Galadima then assured that the North would vote in line with what they considered the best for Nigeria at this time and in the future. “We want to assure fellow Nigerians that Northern Nigeria is not some kind of slave colony, where some elites drag us by the neck to vote on the basis of sectionalism or religion. We shall vote for the best candidates who hold the best promise to recharge Nigeria and get her working again, because, like every responsible citizen, we want the best interest of our country and we want a brighter future for our children,” he added.

Kuje prisons attack: We want proof our members are safe — IPOB tells FG

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on the Federal Government to show evidence that its members incarcerated at Kuje Prisons were still alive and safe. IPOB made this demand on Thursday in its reaction to the terrorists attack at Kuje Prisons, Abuja, on Tuesday night, where more than 400 inmates escaped and many were still at large. Meanwhile, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have claimed responsibility for the attack in a video on Wednesday. The Nnamdi Kanu-led group expressed worry that the Federal Government deploys security agents to peaceful communities in the South-East, whereas the North, rampaged by terrorists and bandits, has low presence of security operatives. The statement read in part: “We, the global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to let the world know that IPOB members were profiled and detained in Kuje Prison yards for simply being indigenous to Biafra and of Igbo race. “We have their details and want them alive because if anything untoward happens to our comrades, who are detained in Kuje, IPOB will never take it easy. “It is high time these innocent folks are released. Nigeria cannot continue to detain them indefinitely while allowing terrorists and bandits to come and slaughter them under disguised arrangements. “A very pertinent question to ask is how can bandits and terrorists be rampaging the North, even supposedly attacking the President’s convoy and breaking into prison yards to release their colleagues, while the government deployed and continue to deploy battalion of soldiers to occupy many peaceful communities in Biafraland? “Our intelligence unit uncovered an evil plan against our leader. We are, therefore, demanding that our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, be transferred immediately to a prison in the Eastern region for his safety. “If anything untoward happens to him, Nigeria will see and feel total and consuming madness. Even after the Biafran nation’s freedom is fully achieved, they will never have peace.”

Delta Gov Poll: Court disqualifies PDP candidate, Oborevwori

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, disqualified the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sherrif Oborevwori, from contesting the 2023 governorship election in Delta State. The court, in a judgement that was delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, held that Oborevwori lacked the legal competence to participate in the election. The verdict followed a suit that was brought before the court by an aggreived member of the party, Mr. Olorogun Edevbie. The Plaintiff had among other things, contended that the Defendant was not validly nominated by his party. He told the court that PDP violated both its constitution and the Electoral Guidelines, during its state congress that produced Oborevwori as its flagbearer for the forthcoming gubernatorial election. Consequently, the Plaintiff, prayed the court to restrain the party from forwarding Oborevwori’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and to also restrain the electoral body from receiving or recognising him as the duly nominated candidate of s the party for the election. More so, the Plaintiff, sought an order to restrain Oborevwori from parading or carrying himself as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state. Also cited as Defendants in the matter were the PDP and INEC. Meanwhile, in his judgement on Thursday, Justice Taiwo held that the suit was meritorious. He accordingly granted the reliefs against Oborevwori.

N270m Fraud: Court Jails Fake Army General, Ayinde For Seven Years

The EFCC on January 13, 2022, said it had arrested one Bolarinwa Oluwasegun who was allegedly posing as an Army General. A Special Offences Court, sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos, on Thursday convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment a fake Army General, Bolarinwa Oluwasegun Abiodun whose real name is Hassan Kareem Ayinde. Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo convicted and sentenced the convict without any option of a fine. He was convicted following a plea bargain at the proceedings where he admitted to using the name of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo (alias OBJ) to defraud a businessman Mr Bamidele Olusegun Safiriyu to the tune of N270m. In her judgment, Justice Taiwo ordered the convict to give N20 million to the complainant. He is also to forfeit four vehicles recovered during a search of his home at 1A Joke Ayo Street, Alagbado, Lagos. The judge also said that the defendant is to forfeit the building at No 1 Joke Ayo Street, Alagbado. Among the property to be forfeited are a black Range Rover Sport HSA with Reg No YAB 289 BD, a black BMW 750 NNI with Chasis No WBAKC6C51A393501, a black Toyota Land Cruiser V6 ESR with Chasis No JINHU09JXV4086310 and a white Toyota Hilux with Reg No Lagos KTU 985 BT. Also, the court ordered that the First Bank of Nigeria account of Bolarinwa Oluwasegun Abiodun containing N1,400 be closed. Justice Taiwo said that the action of the convict shows the length scammers can go to defraud innocent victims, adding that he portrayed himself to be a General, he so perfected the scam by the level of his education that one wonders if such an individual should be allowed to walk scot-free. “It is so sad that people have given our dear country a bad name. I intend to send a clear message to scammers,” the judge said. The fake Army General was charged by the EFCC on a 13-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, forgery of documents, and possession of documents containing false pretence values of N266,500,000. He was arraigned on April 11, 2022, on offences contrary to Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act 2006; Section 363 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 and Section 6 of the Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences Act No 14 of 2006, respectively. According to the charge: “Bolarinwa Oluwasegun Abiodun, between 15th June 2020 and 31st December 2020 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud and whilst holding yourself out as a General in the Nigerian Army, obtained the sum of N111,400,000 from a company under the pretence that the sum represented part of the amount expended to “press and process” your incoming appointment by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as the CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF of the Nigerian Army, which pretence you knew to be false.” The charge further reads: “Bolarinwa Oluwasegun Abiodun, sometime in May 2020 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, knowingly forged LETTER OF APPOINTMENT AS CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF dated 20th May 2020 and purported the said document to have emanated from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which document you know to be false.” He pleaded guilty to the charge.

Kuje Attack: CSO Calls For Immediate Sack Of NSA, Minister Of Defence

A Civil Society Organization (CSO), Center for Democratic and Security Reforms has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Minister of Defence for what it described as laxity and gross failure to coordinate operations in the face of ever daring terrorists activities in the country, further accusing the NSA of direct complicity in all the terrorists attacks recently in the country especially the Kuje prison attacks which took place on the 5th of July, 2022. Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Executive Secretary of the group, Alhaji Shettima Ibn Hamisu, wondered why terrorists numbering more than 300 and riding on motorcycles can attack a medium security prison housing high-profile criminals under the nose of the NSA without being challenged “We are appalled by the barbaric and dastard attacks that took pl`ace in the Federal Capital Territory on a medium prison facility where the office of the NSA is headquartered. It is shameful that the NSA has woefully failed to gather and coordinate operations even within few kilometers from his office and residence. This is totally unacceptable and must be sacked to pave way for a competent Nigerian who will resuscitate operations coordination of the comatose state the current occupant of the office has left it”, the statement insisted. The CSO lamented the inability to send reinforcements to the scene of the attack after almost 3 hours of non-stop attacks and guns, noting that the only person charged with the responsibility for coordinating other security agencies is the NSA who sadly failed woefully to act because he is clueless and probably complicit in the whole attacks. “It is very disheartening to note that the attacks on the Kuje Prison lasted between 10pm on the 5th of July to almost 2am without any reinforcement. This is suspicious because of the very many military installations in and around the Kuje area. “We have reliably gathered that intelligence was provided before the attack but nothing was done to prevent it because the NSA chose to ignore it like he did during the Abuja train incident. If not for gross negligence and incompetence, how can 300 plus motorbikes ride inside Abuja, commit an attack on federal maximum prison and ride back to wherever they came from without any hindrance and interception?” the statement queried. While calling on PMB to swiftly act to put an end to the spate of unprovoked attacks on the nation which have continued unchallenged because of a comatose NSA, the CSO urged Nigerians to remain calm as peace and security will soon be restored to the country once a competent and professional person is appointed as the next NSA.
