He argued that Okorocha now a Senator representing Imo North in the Senate will not abuse the order and will return to the country for his trial. While granting the request, Justice Ekwo ordered Okorocha to return the passport to the Court Registrar not later than three days of his arrival in the country. The Judge held that he would declare Okorocha wanted if he attempts to abuse the favour granted him. Justice Ekwo subsequently fixed November 7 for his trial in the money laundering criminal charges brought against him by the Federal Government. Okorocha is standing trial before the court on 17-count money laundering charges preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC). He said, “As I read with emotions your birthday greetings to me. I call on the Governments, patriots and other stakeholders to rise to the occasion to find a way around the raging vexatious issue.” While lauding President Buhari for his consistency and unrepentant stance in the fight against terrorism and banditry, he attributed the economic downturn to insecurity, suggesting a convocation of a national security summit. According to him “While we hail the efforts of the governments at various layers, the military and other relevant security agencies, there is need for an increased motivation for the personnel. “The situation is dire and we must all join hands to avert greater calamities that befall the country. “Those jostling to lead Nigeria should know that the task ahead is daunting, especially the area of security and economy.”

Nothing wrong in Obasanjo selling my candidacy, says Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP has said there is nothing wrong in former President Olusegun Obasanjo selling his candidacy to Northern Nigeria. Obi made the assertion while speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Wednesday. The Labour candidate said, “What is wrong in Obasanjo selling my candidacy. They (The North) are even selling my candidacy. Both the NNPP presidential candidate and the spokesperson, my senior brother Buba Galadima all said it. In PDP, the Niger Chief Servant and Senator Dino Melaye are all saying Peter is competent to deal with the economy. “I am saying we have an economic problem. We don’t need somebody to be on top of me when I can solve the problem and that is what I’m offering. I’m contesting to be the president of Nigeria. I might be coming from a section of the country, but I want to solve the problem of Nigeria,” he said. Obi assured that he wants to start a new Nigeria, where Nigerians can be proud and believe in their country. Recall that the Chairman of the Dialogue Group, Mahdi Shehu had earlier criticized Obasanjo and the Chairman, Northern Elders Forum, Ango Abdullahi for promoting Obi in the North region of the country. This was coming after a contemplated alliance moves between the Labour Party candidate and the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso. But contrary to expectations of the alliance, the chances and alliance moves between the duo proved unfruitful as the candidates failed to reach a compromise on presidential and vice presidential candidate status. A chieftain of the Labour Party and Director-General of Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe, on Tuesday, had declared that there would be no alliance between the duo.

Wike won’t defect… he’s PDP to the marrow, says BoT member

Adamu Waziri, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) board of trustees (BoT), says Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, will not leave the party. Waziri, a former minister of police affairs, said this on Tuesday in an interview on Channels Television. The development comes amid speculations over if Wike would defect after he lost the presidential and vice-presidential tickets of the party. Amid calls for reconciliation, Walid Jibrin, PDP BoT chairman, had said the party will take measures to ensure members remain united ahead of the 2023 polls.   Recently, there had been reports that Waziri was named as the emissary sent by Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, to meet with Wike who is on vacation in Turkey. However, Waziri said the meeting with the Rivers governor in Turkey, was a coincidence. “The report was inaccurate. I went to Istanbul on holiday on Friday, and governor Wike came to Istanbul on Wednesday,” he said.   “He didn’t know I was in Istanbul. I didn’t know he was coming. We met in front of the lift of the hotel. We happened to stay in the same hotel. We talked briefly but not as deep as I would have wanted, but he didn’t refuse to see me. “Governor Wike is a PDP man to the marrow. He will not go anywhere. He has invested so much in PDP. Governor Wike knows I appreciate his situation, because he knows I fought for Waziri (Atiku) to become the candidate. So, there’s no problem about that. “But both of us are members of the PDP and we have reached a point that as committed and loyal members when a party takes a decision, we must follow and try to strengthen the party. “Governor Wike did say on the convention floor that he is going to work for the success of the presidential candidate of the party, irrespective of whether he won or not. And I have known governor Wike to be a very steadfast person.”

Ekweremadu: Court Orders NIMC To Submit David Ukpo’s Bio-data To AGF For Transmission To UK

Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the National Identification Management Commission, NIMC, to immediately release the bio-data of David Ukpo to the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, for onward transmission to the United Kingdom Court. The court issued the order following a request to that effect by the Commission and in response to the request of the detained former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu to defend himself in a London court. Although the court had on July 1 issued an order that the four respondents sued by Ekweremadu release details of David Ukpo to him and his detained wife, Beatrice, NIMC did not obey the order. At Wednesday’s proceedings, NIMC, represented by Mr Muazu Mohammed, informed Justice Ekwo that his client could not obey the order of the Court because it was not served with a hearing notice before the order was issued against it. Mohammed who earlier asked for revocation of the order later amended his motion on notice. In place of revocation of the order, the counsel requested that his client be directed to submit information on David Ukpo to the AGF instead of Ekweremadu for onward transmission to the United Kingdom Court detaining the Nigerian Senator. The request was not opposed by Chief Adegboyega Awomolo SAN who stood for Ekweremadu. Justice Ekwo subsequently granted the request and ordered NIMC to submit the Bionica to the AGF for onward transmission to London Court.
