Police arrest spy policeman who accused Obaseki of embezzlement

The Nigeria Police Force announced on Wednesday the arrest of a Supernumerary Police Officer who urged Edo State residents not to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Àsue Ighodalo. In a video seen by our correspondent, the spy policeman accused the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, of embezzlement and undermining democracy. He stated, “This election on 21st September is not just about APC, PDP, and Labour. It’s about the evil acts committed by Godwin Obaseki and Ighodalo against the people of this state. They have fought and betrayed democracy, abandoned the rule of law, stolen our resources, and now is the time for judgement. “This is the time for the people to tell them that we are the rightful owners of this state. Obaseki and Ighodalo have financially ruined this state, leading us into debt. “Furthermore, they’ve used our resources to build their personal estates. Today, Obaseki and Ighodalo have used state resources to establish Globus Bank. I recall that during Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure, Ighodalo was asked to chair a state economic team, but he refused because there wasn’t enough money to pay him. “That’s how he recommended Godwin Obaseki. You can see they are trying to make governance a family affair between two friends. We, the Edo people, will not allow that. Now is the time to bring Obaseki to justice.” The officer further alleged that Obaseki had avoided consequences due to his immunity as governor, but warned that he would be held accountable after his tenure. He added, “Obaseki has committed numerous crimes against the Edo people. He has been spared due to the immunity granted by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Soon, his immunity will expire, and the Edo people will hold him accountable. We know they will lose, and Obaseki knows it too.” In response to the video, Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi condemned the remarks made by the spy policeman in an official statement. Adejobi clarified that Supernumerary Police Officers are private individuals trained by the Nigeria Police for specific security duties and are not regular police officers. He explained, “The NPF strongly condemns this act and clarifies that the individual in question is not a regular officer of the Nigeria Police Force but a Supernumerary (Spy) Police Officer employed by a private company. “Supernumerary Police Officers are private individuals trained by the Nigeria Police for specific security functions, usually within their place of employment. They are not on the NPF payroll and do not swear an oath of allegiance like regular police officers. While they have the right to belong to any political party and freedom of expression, the Police frown upon the use of an official SPY uniform for political activities.” Adejobi confirmed that the officer had been arrested and was under investigation. He added, “The individual involved has been arrested for further investigation. We reiterate that his political comments do not reflect the views of the Nigeria Police. The public is urged to disregard such statements and trust in our continued commitment to professionalism, neutrality, and the rule of law.”

Peter Obi Nigerian version of Donald Trump – Presidency

The Presidency has described the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, as the Nigerian version of former US President and Republican candidate for the US 2024 election, Donald Trump. The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, Temitope Ajayi, drew the comparison in a post on social media platform, X on Wednesday. This comes following the US presidential debate between Trump and Democratic candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris. “Peter Obi is the Nigeria version of Donald Trump. Like Obi, Trump will use the most negative epithets imaginable to describe a country he wants to lead again just to make a point and rile up his base,” he wrote. During the debate, Harris and Trump clashed on many issues ranging from abortion rights to immigration, as both candidates sought to sway voters in a tightly contested race. Ajayi added, “Kamala Harris prosecuted Trump very well in their first face to face debate yesterday night. Kamala convincingly won the debate and left no one in doubt about his capacity. “Vice President Harris knew Trump’s weakness and set traps for him. Trump fell for her baits. Both candidates have been fact-checked on their claims in the debate. While Harris was reported to have made just one incorrect claim, Trump made 33 false claims in the same 90 minutes debate.” Media reports revealed that Trump often responded to Harris’s provocations by repeating conspiracy theories and making false statements regarding the 2020 election and immigration. Despite being fact-checked by debate moderators, the former president stood by his controversial claims, including the assertion that immigrants were consuming the pets of U.S. residents. “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs — the people that came in — they’re eating the cats, they’re eating the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in our country,” Trump said, contradicting the Springfield city manager, who said such accusations had no basis in fact. The 2024 US elections are slated to be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

No less than 80 per cent of animals in the Maiduguri Zoo’s popularity known as Sanda Kyarimi Zoo Park, have died as a result of the reported floods in Borno State. According to the General Manager of the zoo, Ali Abatcha, while 80 per cent of the animals in the zoo have been killed by the flood, others have escaped into the city capital. This is as a report released by the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said the flooding in the zoo has reportedly led to some wild animals, including crocodiles and snakes, escaping their enclosures. Flooding is reportedly covering over 40 per cent of Maiduguri town, which has an estimated population of over 870,000, including the Muna and Jere IDP camps, with a combined population of approximately 230,000. On Tuesday, reports broke that some animals from the zoo, including snakes, crocodiles were seen in town. Although a lion was reported to have escaped, its whereabouts is yet to be known as of press time. The Federal Government has begun the evacuation of residents of the affected communities in the flooding. A statement by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Tuesday, said it is also working on the provision of food, shelter and medical assistance for the victims. The unfortunate flooding situation in the Maiduguri metropolis of Borno State, which started last weekend and increased in the early hours of Monday, 9th September 2024, resulted from excess water from the Alau Dam. One of the spillways of Alau Dam collapsed, leading to a significant increase in water flow downstream and exacerbating the flooding in surrounding areas. As a result, NEMA said the Borno State Government has opened up Bakassi Camp to accommodate those displaced by the flood.

DSS asked me about #EndBadGovernance protesters, Labour Party — Ajaero

Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has shed light on his recent ordeal with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies following his arrest on Monday. The DSS had detained Ajaero for over 16 hours at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, seizing his phones and international passport. However, Ajaero confirmed on Tuesday that his items had been returned. He said, “Yes, it is true. My phones and passport have been returned to me by the DSS.” Reflecting on his experience, Ajaero described it as a troubling episode. “It was like the DSS arrested me on behalf of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) department of the Police because IRT operatives came to interrogate me and take my statement while I was detained,” he explained. “The DSS also interrogated me and took my statement. I do not know why they had to embarrass me publicly like that.” Ajaero detailed the nature of the interrogations. “The same IRT operatives in whose office we were on August 29, 2024, alongside Mr. Femi Falana, came and asked the same questions I was asked in the previous meeting with them. “They asked about the operator of Iva Valley Bookshop on the second floor of the NLC secretariat building. They asked me whether we had communicated on phone, whether he (the Iva Valley operator) communicated with me in writing, and so on.” He continued, “They also asked if I know the protesters (#EndBadGovernance or #EndHunger), especially Eleojo Opaluwa, a staff of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE). I told them I knew him because I employed him at NUEE.” Regarding the Labour Party, Ajaero noted, “They equally asked about the Labour Party (LP), whether we are running the party. I told them we do not run Labour Party, but that we are a trustee of the party. “I also told them that the Labour Party they see today was founded when Adams Oshiomhole was President of NLC.”

Only 32 Police Officers Securing 200 Villages In Katsina – Gov Radda

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina state has again weighed in on the ongoing security challenges bedeviling the state. Speaking during an interview with DW Hausa, Radda specifically said only 32 police officers are patrolling one Local Government Area (LGA) in the state. The governor, who didn’t state which of the LGAs, said it comprises 10 wards and over 200 villages. According to him, among the 32 officers, only nine guns are available, with just five operational. He said: “Currently in Katsina, there is a local government area with 39 policemen and nine guns, and the serviceable guns are five. “The LGA has 10 political wards, with more than 200 villages. How can a police force with 39 personnel protect them? “We have come up with an initiative that for any community ready to defend itself, we will give them necessary support and training to engage criminals before the arrival of the security agents.” Katsina has been under severe attack by bandits. Some days ago, Governor Radda called on the people of the state to adopt proactive measures to protect themselves against bandit attacks. He spoke at a town hall meeting in Daura. In a video that went viral, Radda was visibly furious and charged Islamic scholars to enlighten the citizens about the importance of self-defence as enshrined in Islam. The governor made a similar call in February. His commissioner for Internal Security, Dr Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, also made a similar appeal recently.
