Army Embarks on Medical Outreach in Imo

The 34 Field Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Obinze has continued its medical outreach in Imo state, with Izombe Community in Oguta Local Government Area as the latest beneficiary.

Speaking during the flag-off of the exercise in Izombe The commander 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Imo state, Brigadier General Yusuf Ibrahim Turkur  said the medical outreach was part of the Army’s routine exercise to checkmate criminality in the country.

He pointed out that code name for the operation was changed from operation Python dance (Egwu Eke) to Operation Atilogwu Udo (Dance of Peace) to highlight civil-military relationship, as being championed by the army.

He said integrating medical outreaches into the operation was to show that Nigerian Army is not just about fighting wars, but also engages in humanitarian activities. 

He said the mandate of the army is to checkmate criminals and ensure peace in the society, adding that the military will not allow criminals to have a field day in the country.

He called for the support and collaboration of Izombe Community in the effort to promote peace.

Fielding questions from newsmen, the Acting Commanding Officer for medical outreach, Dr Anothnia Okorie described the free medical outreach as a huge success. 

She said that the exercise was mainly targeted at pregnant woman and the elderly. And  informed that over 500 patients had been attended to,

Okorie noted that the outreach included free eye screening and distribution of glasses and drugs as prescribed.

She appreciated the traditional ruler and entire people of Izombe for the warm reception and hospitality accorded them.

In his remarks, the traditional ruler of Aborshi autonomous  community in Izombe clan,  Eze PO Muforo thanked the hierarchy of the Nigerian Army for the kind gesture and prayed God to strengthen them in their effort to promote peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.
