COVID-19 Lockdown: 10 corpses ‘denied entry’ into Ebonyi state

Dave Umahi... Ebonyi state governor

No fewer than 10 corpses being transported into Ivo council area of Ebonyi state through various boundary communities have been denied access into the state.

The Chairman of the local government, Chief Ogbonnaya Ude disclosed this to newsmen at Ishiagu while monitoring the boundary areas of the council.

He lamented that foreigners have been entering the area through Uturu Abia state, Enugu and other boundary towns and urged people to remain where they are until the coronavirus pandemic emergency was over.

He said the cases of the virus recorded in the state were people who entered the state through the boundary communities, describing it as unacceptable.

Ude said “the Governor is fighting this coronavirus pandemic with every level of seriousness so that Ebonyi people can be protected and Ivo local government area is one of the entry and exits points into Ebonyi.

“In Ivo, we have so many boundary points. This particular one is the boundary line between Ivo and Awgu and it is a very busy one. As of  today, we have about 19 border points in Ivo bordering motorable and non-motorable access routes.

“So, we are making sure that foreigners don’t enter Ebonyi through Ivo. The information is that everybody should remain where he or she is until after this pandemic. If you look at that Ambulance, it is carrying a corpse from Aba to Ishiagu and we can’t allow that. They must take it back to Aba and put it in the mortuary. When the lockdown is lifted, they can bring it in.

“We have turned back more than 10 corpses in the last one month. People should stay where they are. They troop to our boundary between Enugu, Uturu and Ivo. Some of them meander through the bush through Uturu just to gain access to Ebonyi state”.
