Suspected herdsmen kill two farmers in Delta community

Two farmers have been killed and another left with life-threatening injuries, following an attack by suspected armed herdsmen in Agadama-Uwheru, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, marks a resurgence of violent attacks in the area after a brief period of calm.

The victims were reportedly ambushed on their farm.

A source identified two of the victims as Mr Eyabrokere Irhe and Mr Okeoghene Record, while the identity of the third person remains unknown.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants struck while the farmers were working, stabbing Eyabrokere in the stomach.

The other two initially escaped but later returned to help him, unaware that their attackers were lying in wait.

“As they attempted to rescue the injured victim, the assailants attacked again, killing Mr Okeoghene Record and shooting Eyabrokere a second time,” the source said.

“The survivor managed to escape and alert the community.”

A search party later recovered the bodies of the deceased.

Residents of Uwheru Kingdom have expressed fear over persistent attacks, alleging that armed groups have been terrorising their communities, destroying farmland, and forcing people to flee.

“As we speak, several communities, including Agadama, are under siege. Security agents are urgently needed,” a community leader pleaded.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe Bright has not yet responded to the incident.
