Tension in Katsina community over killing of 11 suspected bandits

SECURITY has been beefed up at Wurma community in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State following the murder of 11 people alleged to be bandits by local volunteers known as Yan -Sakai.

The victims , who were all youths and believed to be Fulani , were reportedly murdered by the local volunteers on Monday .
Sources said the local volunteers traced the victims to the Wurma market on Monday , rounded up and took them to a location at Dutsin Karare , where they were murdered .

It was alleged that the victims were responsible for the spate of attacks in Wurma and other surrounding communities in Kurfi, Dutsinma and Batsari Local Government Areas of the state.

It was further learnt that the incident had made some residents of the community to relocate to other communities out of fears of reprisal by relatives of the victims.

It was learnt that security operatives, including police patrol teams and detectives were on the ground in the community because of the incident.

The spokesman for the Katsina Police Command, Gambo Isah who confirmed the development, said efforts were on to arrest those who murdered the victims .

“ We are working hard to arrest those who carried out the act to face the wrath of the law. No sane society will condone this kind of act and that was why the Katsina State Government banned the activities of Yan -Sakai in the state” .
