Okorocha also blamed the governor for the problems in the Imo state chapter of the APC, alleging that Uzodinma appears comfortable with the party in crisis, which he said further makes his loyalty to the ruling party suspect. The Senator for Imo West added that judging by the Governor’s utterances, that Uzodinma has been recruited by those who wants to stop his presidential ambition. Okorocha who spoke yesterday through his Special Adviser (Media), Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo was reacting to recent assertions against him credited to Governor Hope Uzodinma and noted he had no personal problems against Uzodinma. “The Governor is the one creating problems for himself and also inventing problems where they do not exist”, he said. He continued: “The government in Imo as we speak is APC in name, but totally PDP faction in structure and in actions. The governor has not done anything to show that he is of APC and that his government, is that of APC. The government is ‘CampHope’ government made up of those who were with him in his own faction of the PDP. “He was inaugurated in January 2020 as governor. The key stakeholders of APC in the state and their supporters were all at the inauguration, including Rochas Okorocha, Ifeanyi Araraume, Uche Nwosu and others. But few weeks after the inauguration, the governor made his appointments of about One Hundred and Six (106) people, including Commissioners. He never deemed it necessary to bring in at least one known APC member in the state to make the list. “The man he appointed secretary to the state Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu, Junior brother of the former INEC Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu is a PDP member and was also in the same position during the previous PDP government in the State. His Chief of Staff, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie was the State Chairman of his own faction of the PDP in the state. The man he gave Adams Oshiomhole to be made the Chairman of the caretaker committee of APC, Chief Marcillinus Nlemigbo, was one time Chairman of PDP in the state. We can go on and on, to name them.” Okorocha recalled that he influenced the return of eight Action Alliance (AA) members of the House of Assembly to APC while Senator Ifeanyi Araraume influenced the return of six All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) members of the House of Assembly to APC, which made APC the majority party in the State Assembly bringing about the stability Uzodinma is enjoying today. “But what has the governor done in appreciation of all these gestures?”, he queried. The statement from Onwuemeodo stressed that Uzodinma has been recruited by those who wants to stop Okorocha’s presidential ambition and Uzodinma literally owned up as much with his utterances at the last Imo stakeholders meeting of the APC

Governor Uzodinma set to probe financial misappropriations in Heartland FC

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State is set to wield the big stick on Heartland Fotball Club of Owerri in a bid to prope and prosecute those that allegedly plundered the resources meant to reposition the club. A source from the club who confided to newsmen on the matter but begged not to be named said barring any change of mind, which he admitted was unlikely, Governor Uzodinma has resolved to get external auditors to audit the financial activities of the club in the past couple of years. Recall that Heartland has been in the news for the wrong reasons in the past few months after they were found guilty of terminating the contract of some of their former players unlawfully. As a result, the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, club was banned from signing new players for the next two registration periods and ordered to pay over N16 million to the players by the League Management Company (LMC) in February, a development the state government frowned at. Also, there are rumours that the remaining players of the once CAF Champions League finalists are planning mass exit from the club due to their(club) inability to pay them and this is coming after it has been revealed that former Governor Emeka Ihedioha duly released funds for players’ recruitment and salaries.

Police arrest 15 over alleged attack on Imo governor’s convoy

The Imo State Police Command on Monday paraded 15 suspects accused of attacking the convoy of the State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, at New Owerri while on his way to a function at Obinze. Briefing newsmen shortly before parading the suspects, the State Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akinmoyede, alleged that the suspects armed with a locally-made pistol, machetes and a masquerade’s mask, smashed the backup vehicles in the Governor’s convoy. According to the CP, the suspects, who claimed to be personnel of the Imo State Oil Producing Area Commission (ISOPADEC), ‘had ambushed the convoy with their weapons’ before a reinforcement patrol came to avert the situation. All the suspects, according to Akinmoyede, has been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation. Although the suspects have claimed to be the staff of ISOPADEC, the State Government has insisted that they are not staff of the commission. Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Commission was abortive as at press time. But a source close to the Commission said it was illogical to allege that the governor’s convoy was ambushed with a machete and a locally made pistol when it is public knowledge the governor had a detachment of heavily armed security personnel in his convoy at all times. The claims and assertions of the police are largely exaggerated and apparently sponsored by the state government which has been owing the commission staff for upwards of three months now.
