How Ibadan Suspected Serial Killer Murdered Another Woman Shortly After Escape From Police Custody

Ibe Pascal Arogorn The prime suspect in connection with incessant ritual killings of residents of Akinyele area of Ibadan in Oyo State, Sunday Shodipe, who escaped from police custody, has killed another woman in the community. The incident occurred on Saturday when the fugitive sneaked into the room of a woman identified as Funmilayo (Iya Ibeji) and smashed her head with an object believed to be a Cutlass . A friend of the victim was said to have alerted neighbours, who rushed her to a private hospital, where they stitched her head but later referred her to the University College Hospital because of the severity of the injuries. She was also rejected because of lack of bed space. Crimefacts gathered that she was later taken to Adeoyo Hospital at Ring Road where she died as a result of lack of proper medical attention to save her life. An eyewitness, who is also a friend of the victim, Medinat Amusat said “We were together outside the house around 12:00pm before we went to take our bath. “When I finished taking my bath around 3:00pm and i came out to cook but suddenly the children in the compound came and told me that snake has bitten Iya Ibeji. “I rushed to her room and i saw her in the pool of her blood with her face wrapped with cotton and blood was still gushing out from her head. I quickly raised alarm and called the neighbours and we rushed her to a private hospital.” Father of Barakat, a victim of the suspect, Kazeem Bello, who also rushed to the scene of the incident, narrated how a relative told him that Shodipe was the killer of his daughter. He said, “A relative called me that Shodipe was sighted at Akinyele Elewure Market but i said that is not possible. But when they insisted that they saw him, I have to go there by myself. “When I got there he has left but those who saw him showed me his picture on their phones. I went to meet the king Alakinyele of Akinyele and narrated the story meanwhile the king could not believe my story too until he put a phone call to a senior police officer in Iyaganku police station who confirmed to him that the suspect has escaped from their custody three days back.” He therefore accused police of bed ng complicit in the matter. The situation led to a protest in the area on sunday morning by residents. The police in the state on 17th July paraded the prime suspect alongside two others in connection with the killing of people at Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, the capital city.

Enugu state govt demolishes Church, destroys N70m equipment

Crimefacts gathered that the church located at No. 19, Park Avenue, GRA, was taken apart by the men of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority on Thursday. Responding to this shocking incident on Saturday, the Administrative Pastor of the church, Mr. Emmanuel Bamidele, described the demolition as ungodly and an attack on the body of Christ. Mr. Bamidele said that it was horrifying to see a Governor is a Christian by faith tear apart God’s house. “The owner of the property is overseas. The property was leased to the church for a certain number of years because we did not intend to stay permanently on the property. So, when we started, we applied to the state capital territory development authority to put glass tenet but approval was denied. “So, we decided to put and ordinary tenet. However, before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the ECTDA came and sealed the premises. We called the governor who after listening to us said that it would be resolved amicably. We have had a meeting with the Chairman of the ECTDA, Dr Josef Onoh, and we are still discussing. “Regrettably, on Wednesday at about 10am, I was in the church with our members, suddenly I heard a bang on the gate. I decided to look through the window and saw a bulldozer pulling down the perimeter fence of the property. I ran out in company with my colleagues and went to meet the person in charge . “They didn’t talk to us and the bulldozer entered the premises and started demolishing the church tenet and all the equipment in it worth over N70m.” He further disclosed that all his pleas to the officials of the ECTDA to permit them to remove their equipment, which, according to him, were only imported few days earlier, fell on deaf ears. He appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to see to it that that the destroyed church property was compensated with some restitution.

BREAKING: Tribunal nullifies Bayelsa governorship election

The Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Petition Tribunal has nullified the election of Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State.The election was nullified based on a petition by the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) , which argued that it was unlawfully excluded from participating in the election. The tribunal ruling however, could still be contested at the appeal court. The ruling comes two days after the tribunal dismissed three other petitions against the election of Mr Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The church, Truth Assembly International INC in Owerri is scheduled to have a prayer session by 4 pm today (Sunday), August 16. Meanwhile, a social media user told Crimefacts that it is hilarious and said it’s a case of misplaced priority.

Oyo: Police confirm escape of serial killer from custody

A notorious serial killer, Sunday Shodipe has escaped from the Police custody in Oyo state. The Police Command in Oyo confirmed this on Sunday.The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Nwachukwu Enwonwu, in a statement made available to newsmen, through the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, indicated that Shodipe escaped from the police custody. The statement read :“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP. Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu wishes to state that, the prime suspect in the serial killings at Akinyele Local Government Area, Moniya Ibadan of Oyo State, one Sunday Shodipe ‘m’ 19 years who was arrested and paraded along with two others at the Oyo State Police Command on 17th July 2020 and later charged to court but remanded in Police custody escaped from lawful custody on 11/08/2020.” “Consequent upon this, the CP wishes to implore the general public to be on the lookout, arrest and immediately inform the Officers and men of the Command when sighted for immediate handing over for further action.” “He further seizes this opportunity to appeal to any member of the public with credible information as to the whereabouts of the assailant not to hesitate in passing same to the Oyo State Police Command to assist in the apprehension of the offender who is now at large.” He further advice angry youths/mobs to desist from taking laws into their hands by carrying out jungle justice when suspected criminals are arrested, but such suspect(s) should be handed over to the Police. It would be recalled that, upon Shodipe’s escape from the police custody, residents of Ori-Oke Olurunkole in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state last Friday morning, woke up to the heart-rending news of a middel-aged woman, Mrs Olufunmilayo, who was again reportedly macheted to death, suspecting he (Shodipe) was the one that carried out the dastardly act. The development, however, infuriated youths in the area to embark on a violent protest, which led to a serious attack on the police. The Caretaker Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Mr. Taoreed Jimoh, shed light to what led to the protest by the angry youths. According to him: “We heard that the woman was macheted, she was rescued immediately and taken to UCH, so we heard the report that she died this morning.” “That was what prompted residents to embark on a mass protest, unfortunately, the peaceful protest was hijacked by hoodlums. The hoodlums went to the extent of pelting security operatives with stones and other objects, but with the help of God, peace is gradually returning to the area and it is under control. “ “I have called Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations and he has deployed more officers to the area, also, I called the Area Commander and Federal SARS and other security operatives and local security agents such as Soludero and others have arrived the area to calm the situation. The Alakinyele of Akinyele Oba James Odeniran was also on ground to rescue few police officers that the hoodlums manhandled. “The killing was carried out by suspected ritualists. Residents suspected a ritualist who was reportedly arrested by the police but allegedly escaped from their custody, he was seen in Akinyele two days ago and yesterday, the residents had to raise alarm and people are suspecting he was the one that carried out the dastardly act,” he said .

Woman allegedly bites off husband’s private part in Imo

Ibe Pascal Arogorn A 25-year-old young woman from Oboama Ezinihite Mbaise local government area of Imo State has allegedly bitten off her husband’s genital during a fight between the couple. A cousin to the victim, Udochukwu Nwimo who narrated the incident to Crimefacts said that trouble started on Sunday when the ex- boyfriend to the lady picked her up from the house and brought her back late in the night. Nwimo said, “a fight ensued when the woman was brought back home late by her lover. As the couple retired for the night sleep, the wife who is plump and heavy, pounced on the man and destroyed his manhood. The attention of the neighbours were drawn to the incident by the screams and shouts of the distraught man. “The man has since been rushed to a hospital,” he said. Nwimo further disclosed that the lady had been caught severally fighting with her husband both in and outside their house. Crimefacts gathered that the youths of the area who were angered by the development,grabbed the woman and took her to Aboh-Mbaise Divisional Police Headquarters for questioning.

Enugu Govt demolishes house of man who pulled down Airport fence

The house of Architect John Emejulu, who demolished about one kilometre of perimeter fencing of Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, has been pulled down by the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, (ECTDA), Crimefacts has learnt. The private residence is reportedly situated alongEziokwe street, off Nike Lake road, Trans Ekulu, Enugu.At the site to supervise the demolition was the Chairman of ECTDA, Dr Joseph Onoh, who told newsmen that his agency obtained a court order to demolish the duplex. Onoh said the property stood on water way and needed to give way. He denies that the action was in reprisal to Emejulu’s demolition of the airport fence being constructed as part of the airport rehabilitation. Emejulu had on Wednesday executed an order of court at the disputed airport land do take back his 400 plots he said he bought from Nike Community in 2008. Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika who visited the airport demolition on Thursday, has threatened to deal with Emejulu for destroying Federation government asset. Emejulu is said to have been at large since the demolition of the airport perimeter fence.

67 IPOB members, native doctor nabbed for alleged unlawful assembly

Ibe Pascal Arogorn No fewer than 67 members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and a native doctor who was in their company are cooling off in the custody of the Imo State Police command for alleged unlawful assembly. A statement issued by the spokesman of the command, SP Orlando Ikeokwu and made available to Crimefacts noted however that the members of separatist group were actually rounded off by soldiers at a Military check point. The statement read in part: “On the 9th of August, 2020 at about 0630hrs, Sixty-Seven (67) members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) converged somewhere in Orji, Owerri North Local Government Area and took off to Egbema. At about 0930hrs, operatives of the 34 Field Artillery Brigade while on duty at Mmahu Egbema Check Point, intercepted Sixty-Seven (67) members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and called for reinforcement from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Egbema. The operatives of the Division swiftly mobilized to the scene and assisted in the evacuation of the suspects to the Divisional Police Headquarters for further action. It is believed that the group is planning an attack on security agencies with the aim of snatching weapons. “The said suspect (Amadi Cyprian) had removed bullets from one of them (IPOB) whom had gunshot injuries in the past. It is also noteworthy that the group attacked and snatched two rifles from Police during a violent protest in 2018, of which the rifles were later recovered from a kidnap gang in a robbery operation.” The Police spokesman maintained that IPOB has been proscribed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, and that as such, any gathering by the group is viewed as unlawful. “They will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded”, Ikeokwu said.
