Uzodinma, Okorocha turning Imo into war zone – PDP The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday accused the governor of Imo State , Hope Uzodinma, and a former governor of the State , Rochas Okorocha , of turning the state into a war zone . The PDP spokesperson in the state, Ogubundu Nwadike, in a statement on Monday said that the clash between the supporters of Okorocha and Uzodinma on Sunday at Royal Spring Estate, Owerri , was “ disgusting ” . The statement alleged that the actions of Uzodinma and Okorocha were causing tension and apprehension in the state. The statement read , “ The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State , strongly condemns the horrific violent and bloody gun battle which recently occurred in the State between supporters of Senator Rochas Okorocha and supporters Governor Hope Uzodimma, where they were engaged in a bizarre indiscriminate shooting over the sealing by the Government , of Royal Spring Palm Estate Hotel, in the Akachi area of Owerri , the state capital. “ It is highly disgusting that the present APC Government in the State has turned Imo into a terror zone and theatre of war and conflict . In recent times , Imolites have had the most tragic and excruciating experience ranging from the recent military invasion of parts of Orlu and Orsu Local Government Areas , which caused insecurity and other forms of gruesome attacks , leading to the breakdown of peace and order , and loss of lives and properties . “ The recent violence perpetrated by supporters of Senator Rochas Okorocha and Governor Hope Uzodimma has stirred up tension and apprehension in the state thereby toppling the atmosphere of saturated peace and tranquility. “ It is indeed, highly despicable that under the present administration, Imo State which used to be the center and cynosure of public peace and orderliness has turned into a jungle of terror where hooliganism , rascality , thuggery, and abuse of the dignity of human peace have become the order of the day . The APC Government in the state has created a Frankenstein monster that haunts the relative peace and social order in the state, Imolites are now living under fear and apprehension and can no more sleep with their two eyes closed . “ It is most disheartening that our dear state has become a laughing stock and object of mockery and caricature due to the present psychopathic leadership which is creating unnecessary tension and also mortgaging the peace of the state. “ We wish to add that since the inception of the present APC government in the state, Imo State has not experienced any modicum of peace , rather the State has continued to wallow and dangle on the debris of hopelessness , misgovernance and massive developmental haemorrhage . Rather than tormenting and unleashing terror on Imolites , APC Government in the state should begin to champion a harmonized and defined strategy for leadership excellence and good governance. ” South-East governors wade into Uzodinma, Okorocha feud The South – East Governors Forum has waded into the impasse between the Imo Governor , Hope Uzodinma, and the state’ s former governor , Rochas Okorocha . The forum’ s chairman urged Imo and south -east citizens to conduct their business peacefully and according to the law. “ They should also shun provocative statements as we work towards restoring normalcy to the situation . ” The Imo State police command has said it will not hesitate to charge Senator

Tension as Orton labels Bauchi gov ” terrorist”

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom on Monday accused his Bauchi State counterpart, Bala Mohammed, of being a terrorist based on his utterances supporting herdsmen from carrying AK-47 to defend themselves. Governor Ortom who made this accusation while addressing journalists in Makurdi, Benue State capital said Governor Mohammed must be a terrorist for supporting illegal arms wielding by foreign herdsmen. “I wouldn’t want to be joining issues with my brother, friend, and colleague Bauchi Governor. But since he has continued to vilify, intimidate and blackmail me. It is said that silence is consent. I am compelled to respond to him. “I am beginning to think that my brother, the governor of Bauchi State is part of the terrorist Fulani organisation that is terrorising this country. “Why do I say this? This is the same governor who took the oath of office to protect the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This constitution does not leave room for allowing foreign herdsmen to come in without valid papers. “This is a man who says that a Fulani man is a global man and can come in from anywhere and enter Nigeria. It is quite disappointing to hear a governor who took the oath of office …maybe he should go back and check the oath of office he took to check maybe the constitution gives room for foreign terrorist Fulani herdsmen to come into Nigeria,” Ortom said. He also reacted to Governor Mohammed’s statement which says herders can carry AK-47 to defend themselves noting that “his recent outburst that Fulani herdsmen are justified for carrying AK-47 to protect themselves. I don’t know where the constitution of this country allows that.” The Benue Governor there called on Governor Mohammed to render an unreserved apology and learn from the provisions of the constitution that, land both territorial, forest, and aquatic, are vested on the governor of a state who holds them in trust, instead of indulging in inciting Fulani herdsmen against innocent Nigerians. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State last week Friday defended his comment about armed herders, explaining that he used AK-47 as a figure of speech for protection. “It is a figure of speech to show you the despondence, the desperation and frustration and the agony that this particular person is exposed to by his own people, by his own tribe and by other tribes who have all seen him as a criminal and therefore, he has the inalienable right to protect himself,” the governor said during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily. Governor Bala Mohammed’s comment on armed herdsmen had earlier triggered a wave of condemnation from his counterparts and Nigerians alike, increasing calls for the prohibition of open-grazing. Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his Ondo counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, were quick to knock the Bauchi governor’s statement. Akeredolu had described it as uncalled for, arguing that it could further escalate tensions in the West African nation. “For what purpose? Bala Mohammed has even poured more petrol into the fire because his speech is unexpected of him. It will become very serious and nobody will be spared,” Akeredolu, a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), noted.

We will soon expose politician behind arson in South-West ― Arewa youths

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has alleged that a South-West politician is behind the current security breach in the region. This was even as the forum vowed to expose the alleged sponsor if the attacks on the Northerners is allowed to continue unabated. The forum explained that its independent investigation had revealed that “a certain South-West politician and his associates, have been fanning the embers of ethnic and regional hatred as well as igniting mindless and senseless violence, especially in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.” Stressing that “his dirty political game is up if he fails to desist.” The AYCF, in the statement signed by its National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima in Kaduna on Sunday, said its condemns in totality the violence, killings and arson in Ibadan but explained that it was improper to punish the innocent majority because of the sins of a few criminals. The statement reads in part: “Much as we condemn all crimes and criminals themselves, we cannot fathom why the action of a few criminals should justify any form of physical attack on majority innocent citizens and their assets in any part of this country.” AYCF further said: “All Nigerians are living witnesses to the role of the Northern political elite in stabilizing the nation, using the democratic system of supporting the emergence of presidents outside the North. Our philosophy of self-denial does not mean, we are not aware of our political strength. “When the South-West cried of marginalization over the annulment of June 12 polls, which the late MKO Abiola was said to have won fair and square, the North rallied behind the South-West, by giving their massive votes to Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999 and he served for eight years. “The emergence of another president from the North, the late Umaru Musa Yaradua was shortlived but the Northern Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) joined hands with Southern progressives to form the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) that helped paved the way for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan from the South to continue as the nation’s leader. “So, the North’s large heart in giving its total support for the emergence of political leadership outside the North should not be mistaken for weakness. ‘We cannot be stampeded into surrendering power just because of one man’s blackmail to fuel his 2023 political ambition. “The North is never such a weakling and let it be known that Northerners did their best in supporting the emergence of presidents from outside the region not because of political blackmail of ethno-regional profiling,” the group noted. The group also demanded that governors of the South West, notably the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, to ensure that compensation is paid to the families of those killed and the survivors of the violent attacks.

Buhari, govs to discuss fuel pricing Thursday —Ngige

The President , Major -General Muhammadu Buhari ( retd . ) , and the state governors will discuss the issue of fuel pricing Thursday. The Minister of Labour and Employment , Senator Chris Ngige, disclosed this Sunday night after a bipartite meeting of the Federal Government and the organised labour at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja . Briefing journalists on their resolutions, Ngige said the labour had investigated the report of the Technical Committee on Premium Motor Spirit Pricing Framework as agreed at the last meeting and made their submissions alongside the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. The minister said , “ The labour side saw that they were making some points and like I said , it is work in progress. Governors are going to discuss this on Thursday. “ They have discussed this at the National Economic Council and so , everybody is involved because we find ourselves in dire straits . There is no money for subsidy . “ The NNPC has explained : What they are doing is import- dependent. Deregulation is import-dependent but they are doing bulk purchasing . So , they can get discounts. “ They are also using foreign exchange that is discounted for them . They are not buying from the parallel market. So , all these things will be put in basket and a price will emerge from it. ” Ngige maintained that the Federal Government has concluded discussions with the organised labour on the fuel pricing . On the electricity tariff , the minister disclosed that the meeting adopted the report of its Ad -hoc Technical Committee on Electricity Tariffs, made some adjustments and transformed the committee into an implementation committee , to implement all the recommendations made , including mass metering . “ You will start seeing members of the committee with the Minister of Power , going around now and making sure that the DISCOS put meters for people because there are reports that they don’ t want to be distributing meters and that they want to be doing bulk billing and estimated billings . So , we don’ t want that. “ There is also a resolution as regards gas companies reducing gas pricing for gas sold to power companies, GENCOS and the rest of them so that the price of electricity per unit will go down and the consumers will benefit from it . We have given the marching orders for them to do so , ” he stated. The minister added , “ Some paper work has to be done and once that is done , price of electricity will go down and once it goes down, the consumers will benefit. ” He said the committee also recommended that those forcefully migrated by distribution companies from lower paying bands C and D to upper bands A and B should petition the National Electricity Regulatory Commission. “ They will be brought back and the DISCO will be sanctioned , ” he said . Ngige, however , announced that the social dialogue between the Federal Government and organised labour has been adjourned till April as the two standing committees are still working . The Secretary to the Federal Government , Boss Mustafa congratulated the organised labour for their sacrifices at this time of economic difficulty , which has been rewarded with Nigeria ’ s exit from recession in the third quarter of 2020. The President of NLC , Comrade Ayuba Wabba and his TUC counterpart, Quadri Olaleye led the organised labour.

Kanu: I’m ready to stand trial at ICC

Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has declared his readiness to stand trial at the International Criminal Court, ICC, in Hague, if defending Biafrans against unprovoked genocidal attacks by killer herdsmen and terrorists would warrant his appearance at the ICC. Kanu who made the declaration on a live broadcast on Radio Biafra Sunday night, regretted that harassments and extrajudicial killings by security agencies have continued unabated across Biafra land. The IPOB Leader said that the world had maintained criminal silence over the plight of Biafrans despite complaints and petitions by IPOB as well as indicting reports against the Nigerian Authorities and security agencies by some reputable global agencies including the UN reportuer on human rights and Amnesty International. He said that besides state-sponsored persecutions and brazen infuriating marginalisation and exclusion against Biafrans, killer herdsmen and terrorists have continued to raid communities in the region unchallenged by the security agencies. ” Herdsmen will attack us, rape our women, destroy our farms and kill our farmers nobody will arrest them but when we try to defend ourselves, government will come after us rolling out the tanks and using their helicopter gun boats”, he fumed. Kanu explained that the incessant unprovoked genocidal attacks by herdsmen and the docility of the Nigerian Authorities gave rise to the formation of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, to protect the hapless Biafran locals against terror. But he regretted that instead of going after the perpetrators of the heinous crimes against innocent citizens, the Nigerian State rather chose to declare war against mere vigilante volunteer group as demonstrated in Thursday’s air strike in Orlu. The IPOB Leader who said that the Orlu military raid marked the beginning of the second Nigeria/Biafra war vowed to mobilise the people in defense of their ancestral land “no matter the consequences”. ” If defending our ancestral land against conquest by Fulani Janjaweed invaders will take me to the Hague I am ready to go to the Hague”, Kanu thundered. Continuing he said: ” The world has the indicting report by the UN Reportuer against Nigeria but they have not done anything. Do we have to wait until we are all killed before we defend ourselves?” Kanu expressed shock that the world had helplessly watched the Nigerian State use brute force against mere peaceful agitators while on the other hand dialoguing with, and facilitating amnesty and payment of ransom to bandits and terrorists who have not shown any remorse or sign of ceasation to their killing spree. According to him world leaders ought to have demanded probe of Nigerian Leaders including some Northern Governors and Islamic clerics over their romance with bandits. He said he would declare 40 days prayer and fasting by next week for Biafrans all over the world to seek God’s presence, and for more spiritual fortification for the task ahead. Kanu who restated Biafra’s Jewish root said Israel can never be crushed by their enemy because of Abraham’s covenant with God which he claimed follows Biafra. He expressed optimism that Biafra would soon be restored despite stiff opposition by the Nigerian State and her International collaborators as well as internal traitors.
