Another Commander Has Taken Over – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) says it has appointed a replacement for its commander killed by security operatives military in Imo State. Emmanuel Powerful, who is the Media and Publicity Secretary to the group, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. “They can say whatever they like, but we are intact. Another commander has taken over,” he said, adding, “I won’t tell you” when asked to name the successor of the secessionist group’s number two man who was popularly known as Ikonson Commander. The IPOB spokesman alleged that their late commander was killed because he refused to lead the Ebubeagu regional security outfit established by the South East Governors’ Forum. He accused the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, of orchestrating the event that led to the killing of Ikonson, but Channels Television cannot verify the claim as of press time. Powerful decried that scores of IPOB and Eastern Security Network (ESN) members have been arrested across states in the region, stressing that the proscription of the group as a terrorist organisation was illegal. “Yesterday (Saturday), our commander went to his village. They ambushed him with some politicians … they ordered the military to kill him. Imo State administrator knows very that he has committed a crime and we must follow him up. “He ordered for the killing of this guy (the late commander) because he refused his offer to come and head the Ebubeagu which the South-East governors established,” he alleged. The IPOB spokesman added, “He (the governor) sent some people to meet him (the late commander), but the guy refused that he cannot betray Biafra’s agitation and our leader – Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Since then, they have been threatening him. “In Imo State, they arrested more than 50 people … they have been going to people’s houses to arrest them; in Anambra, they arrested so many people; in Abia, they arrested so many people.” On Saturday, the Nigerian Army confirmed the death of Ikonson – the overall commander and vice president of the secessionist group. He was said to have been killed by a combined team of security forces in a raid on the operational headquarters of the IPOB/ESN in Awomama Village in Oru East local government area of Imo State. The operation was carried out by troops of 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, as well as operatives of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and Department of State Services (DSS).

Residents Of Omuma Flee Homes After Attack On Uzodimma’s House

Residents of villages in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State are living in fear following Saturday’s attack on the country home of Imo Governor, Hope Uzodimma. Our correspondent gathered that the heightened tension in the area followed indiscriminate arrest of youth by security agents in the aftermath of the attack. Residents of Omuma, Umuokwe, Awomama and neighbouring Orlu town are said to be on alert as soldiers comb the neighbourhoods apparently in search of members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). A resident, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said that the whole town now live in fear. He said, “We now live in fear because security men are arresting people indiscriminately. “The youths are leaving their homes in droves because they’re targets of these indiscriminate arrest.” Our correspondent discovered that even on the streets of Owerri, the state capital, the scenario is reverberating as most major streets are closed or turned to only one way. The popular Okigwe road roundabouts and Warehouse road leading to Orlu and Omuma, through the Owerri-Onitsha road are jam-packed as security men frisk motorists going to Orlu or Onitsha. Efforts to speak to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state command, SP, Orlando Ikeokwu, were unsuccessfully as his phones couldn’t be reached.

He said in a statement that “It has grown so unfortunate and on a daily basis continues to grow worst with no appreciable resistance given the unholy terrorists who have continued to hold our dear state and nation to ransom.” “Today 25th April 2021, innocent worshipers who went out for nothing but to worship and pray to God were attacked, a medical doctor and one other person killed, many members injured and others taken into captivity”. “This is happening in a nation that her constitution allows freedom of religion yet this freedom is not guaranteed. “CAN Kaduna State continue to wonder, what is the crime of innocent citizens, how comes the terrorist appear more free and protected than the citizens? “This is a challenge to the government, indeed a government that is unable to guarantee the safety of its citizens and their properties will be best termed a failed government. “Our hearts go to the local church at Manini, the Nigeria Baptist Convention, and family members of the deceased. “We are appealing to relevant agencies and praying for the safe release of the abducted members and indeed all others in captivity. “We also enjoined all men and women of Goodwill to continue to wake up and do the needful before we are all consumed by the ongoing evil of Banditry and kidnapping that has hijacked our country especially Kaduna State. “The Kaduna State Government and the FG should stop making noise about insecurity and simply act now before Nigerians will have no option than to turn to self-help”.

Attack On Uzondinma’s Town, Declaration Of War On Southeast – Kalu

Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has condemned the attack at the country home of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, describing it as self-destruction and declaration of war in the South East. Kalu stated that continuous raiding of police stations and destruction of property by unknown gunmen calls for decisive action. He appealed to the Federal Government to rescue the state from the siege of “unknown gunmen”. The former governor, in a statement on Sunday, said the situation needed a genuine intervention from the federal government to tame. According to him, there was the need to stop the “unknown miscreants who are interested in making lives miserable for the South Easterners.” According to him, the destruction of infrastructure is tantamount to self-destruction as no wise man burns his house to punish his enemies. He expressed worries that the insecurity in the South East has become more complicated to the extent that the home of a chief security officer of a state is being set ablaze. “If the home of a state governor can be so brazenly attacked and set ablaze, what would they not do to the home of ordinary citizens,” Kalu queried. He noted that the deteriorating insecurity in the country had become an increasing matter of concern, saying Nigerians are no longer feeling secured anywhere. He stressed the need for the Federal Government and security agencies to be more proactive in handling the insecurity in the country. The Senate Chief Whip however urged Gov Uzodinma not to be deterred by the incident, adding, “The attack should rather cause the Governor to beef up security and welfare for the citizens of the state.” Kalu advised Nigerians to be security conscious at all times and provide useful information to security operatives to help the quest to secure Nigerians.

Eliminate Boko Haram leader just as you crushed IPOB commander, Omokri challenges Army

An ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has challenged Nigerian security agencies to eliminate the leader of Boko Haram terrorist sect, Abubakar Shekau, with the same force the security agencies used to crush a top member of the Indigenous People of Biafra, one Commander Ikonso. The PUNCH had earlier reported that police operatives and their counterparts from the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services killed the IPOB commander and six other militia members in Imo State. The IPOB men, who were members of the secessionist group’s security arm, the Eastern Security Network, were killed during an early morning raid on their hideout at Awomama village, Oru East Local Government Area of the state on Saturday. IPOB has since threatened “madness”, saying the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, will “pay dearly” for the killing of its commander. Both IPOB and Boko Haram have been designated as terrorist groups by the Federal Government. Reacting, Omokri challenged the security forces to take out the leaders of other criminal and terrorist elements in the country the same way Ikonso was ambushed. He tweeted, “Can’t Nigeria’s Army also take out leaders of Boko Haram, bandits and killer herdsmen troubling Nigeria, the same way they took out alleged ESN leader, Ikonso? Or, are they (security agencies) only strong when it comes to ESN, and weak when it comes to Boko Haram, bandits and herdsmen?” Nigeria’s North-East rose to inglorious fame when Mohammed Yusuf, founder of militant Islamist group Boko Haram, was killed in 2009. Yusuf’s death birthed a macabre era of unprecedented uprising; carnage, bombings, kidnappings, amongst other crimes against humanity, even till date. Millions of aboriginal Borno, Yobe and Adamawa residents have also been displaced by the unprintable activities of the insurgents. For more than 12 years now, Boko Haram continues to oppress the people of the North-East, gradually spreading its demonic tentacles to the North-West. While the Army and the Presidency keep claiming the group has been ‘technically defeated’ and ‘weakened’, the Shekau’s bloodthirsty faction continues to strike with daring effrontery and crude savagery.
