Insurgents launch attack on Borno community

Insurgents are currently attacking Mainok, a community in Borno state.

A soldier in the area, who confirmed the attack to TheCable, said troops are currently engaging the insurgents.

Mainok is some kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno capital.

The military is also said to have closed the Damaturu-Maiduguri road for now, as a village in the area is currently under attack.

The recent attack comes days after villages around Damasak, Mobbar LGA in Borno state, were attacked by Boko Haram insurgents.

The attack left hundreds of residents displaced as many took to the bushes for safety, while some fled to neighbouring Niger Republic.

Similarly, in February, several persons were killed in a Boko Haram attack on Maiduguri, the Borno capital.

A military source had told TheCable that the insurgents were attempting to infiltrate Maiduguri but they were repelled around the Kaleri area.

Although the military says it has intensified its efforts in fighting Boko Haram, the insurgents have continues to carry out attacks.
