APC Guber Ticket: Okorocha offered me $2million to deliver son-in-law, says Gulak

Okorocha: Gulak should be in jail

More details have emerged in the All Progressive Congress governorship primaries controversy that triggered the factionalization of the party in Imo state.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) committee for the Imo State 2019 governorship primaries, Ahmed Gulak, Sunday night revealed that the immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha offered him a $2million bribe to deliver the party’s governorship ticket to his anointed aspirant, Uche Nwosu.

On what transpired between him and Okorocha, Gulak said: “I have no regret of any action I took during the primaries I conducted in Imo State. I don’t expect Okorocha to be happy with me, and I did not go there to make him happy anyway.

“I went there to do my job and I did it to be best of my knowledge and ability and I came notwithstanding the tempting offer I refused. I can walk the streets of Imo State including Owerri with my shoulders high.

“I may not be perfect as a human being but I did not go there to make him happy. Somebody who offered me up to $2 million to give certificate of return to his nominee but I turned it down.

“How many people can turn such offer down. I would have given him the certificate and pocketed my money because it is money that you don’t go to court for but my conscience will not be clear. For now, my conscience is very clear. I can move round the streets of Owerri unmolested,” he noted.

Reacting to Gulak’s claims, Okorocha’s spokesman, Sam Onwuemeodo said the former governor was not given to bribery and as such dismissed the assertions of Ahmed Gulak as blatant lies.

His statement read in part: “The truth is that Alhaji Gulak was sent to Owerri to ensure the destruction of APC in Imo and by extension, in the South-East. And he achieved that purpose to a large extent. Otherwise, he would not have been, abinitio, sent for such a sensitive task, knowing his porous character and one month after he had left the PDP for APC. He came to Imo with a bad script and he acted his part, with the PDP spirit still alive in him.”

He stressed that under normal scenario, Gulak should have been serving deserving jail terms because what he did in Imo was sabotage against the nation and her democracy.

“He should have been arrested, put on trial and jailed, to serve as a lesson to elements like him”, he said.
