FactCheck: Video of Trump inviting Nigeria’s ex-minister, Engr. Mustafa to join in planning his budget is AI-generated

The video which shows the United States president-elect, Donald Trump, inviting an ex-Nigerian minister, Engr. Bello Mustafa, to join him in planning America’s budget on his return to the White House, has been circulating on Facebook, X, and in many WhatsApp groups since Saturday morning.

Engr Bello Mustafa is a former Nigerian minister of Commerce in the first cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo, holding office between June 1999 and 2002. He became head of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) in December 2003.

In the 17-second video, the UD newly elected president allegedly said he had invited the former Nigerian minister, to join his economic team. Trump stated in the video that Mustafa Bello would take charge of all American budgets and would help to make America great again.

The video has been shared on Facebook, X, and in many WhatsApp groups.

In one of the WhatsApp groups this video was forwarded to, a member captioned it, “Engr. Mustafa Bello was invited by Trump to join him in planning his budgets on his return to the White House.“
