Strike: FG To Meet ASUU Today

The Federal Government and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) will meet today.

This is as a result of the one-month warning strike embarked upon by the union.

While declaring the strike, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU President, blamed the government for failing to meet the demands of lecturers.

The demands include the revitalisation of public universities, earned academic allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) promotion arrears, renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement, and inconsistencies in Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS) payments.

On Monday, Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Charles Akpan, confirmed that Sen. Chris Ngige, will be meeting with the executives of the union and other relevant government agencies over the strike.

The meeting is scheduled for today by 1p.m. at the minister’s conference room.
