Court remands man for ‘defiling’ 15-year-old girl in Lagos

 

A chief magistrate’s court has remanded 18-year-old Nwude Joseph in a correctional facility, for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl in Ikorodu, Lagos state.

Joseph was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on defilement and indecency.

B.A. Sonuga, the chief magistrate, declined the suspect’s plea.

Aminu Isaac, the prosecuting counsel, told the court that the suspect committed the offence on January 17, at Gibson Lesson Centre, Owutu, in the Agric area of Ikorodu.

Isaac said the suspect defiled the girl by having carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

He also said the suspect indecently touched her breasts and buttocks without her consent.

The offences were said to contravene the provisions of section 137 and 135(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos state 2015.

Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for an offender.

The magistrate adjourned the case until April 10 for legal advice from the office of the Lagos state director of public prosecutions (DPP
