Police arrest suspect over murder of POS operator in Adamawa

The Adamawa police command says it has arrested a suspect linked to the brutal murder of Abbas Yuguda, a 35-year-old point of sale (POS) operator, in Mayo-Belwa LGA of the state.

In a statement on Monday, Suleiman Nguroje, the command’s spokesperson, said the incident occurred on Saturday as the victim was returning home from work.

The police spokesperson added that a group of armed assailants attacked the victim, inflicted severe head injuries on him, and left him unconscious in a pool of blood.

“Upon receiving the distress call, operatives from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters swiftly arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa,” the statement reads.

“Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment. Following the attack, some angry youths in the area trailed one of the suspects, identified as Umar SNU, and subjected him to mob action before the police intervened and rescued him.

“The suspect was rushed to the hospital for medical attention and is now aiding the ongoing investigation.”

Dankombo Morris, Adamawa police commissioner, condemned the brutal killing and assured the public of a thorough investigation.

The commissioner cautioned against jungle justice, advising residents to report crimes to the police instead of resorting to self-help or taking the law into their hands.

The command asked residents to stay vigilant while imploring them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station to prevent further violence.
