Public Safety: NAFDAC issues alert on contaminated raspberries from China

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Monday alerted the public on frozen raspberries contaminated with Norovirus from China.

According to the public alert posted on the agency’s website and Twitter handle (@NafdacAgency), Norovirus is a highly infectious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea.

It read in part: “The contamination of the frozen Raspberries with Norovirus was detected in Germany. The contaminated product has Lot No. 7404/1 and it is distributed internationally. Some of the contaminated products have been exported to Nigeria from Germany.”

The public alert warns members of the public not to consume the contaminated frozen Raspberries while imploring importers to desist from importing the contaminated product into Nigeria.

“Anybody with information on importation, distribution and sale of the contaminated frozen Raspberries should contact the nearest NAFDAC office”, it read.

The agency however noted that it has strengthened surveillance at ports of entry to prevent importation of the contaminated product and has heightened surveillance in the thirty-six (36) States and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to prevent distribution and sales of the contaminated product.
