Rights Groups Raise Alarm Over Threats Against Their Leader

 

The Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders’ Foundation (HURIDE) and Campaign for Democracy (CD) South East have raised alarm over threats to the life of their Executive Director and Chairman CD South East Zone respectively, Dede Uzor A Uzor.

In a joint press release by the rights groups alleged threatening calls and messages against the life of Uzor .U

Uzor is a notable human rights activist and a security expert who has been bursting hideout of some criminal elements and handing them over to Security authorities.

He was a leading figure in the recent bursting of criminal elements who murdered a serving legislature in Anambra State among other many high profile criminal gangs in the State.

The Vice Chairman of HURIDE, Comrade Chika Udemadu, who signed the statement said on Wednesday, February… at about 1.13pm, threat messages and calls flooded Dede Uzor’s phone.
One the messages read:
“I know who u are and I know what u are up to but I pity ur family because u are too young to die, be warned ” . It came through GSM number 07083384210.
Udemadu said sometimes, they would call and start raining unprintable threats against our Executive Director and our Chairman.

The human rights community in Anambra State, said Comrade Udemadu, want to call on the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, to immediately provide security around the activist before something untoward befell him, giving the serious insecurity in and around the State.

“We allegedly suspects some Police Officers at RRS, Awkuzu who are not comfortable with Dede Uzor ‘s glaring achievements in bursting criminal elements in the State. Some even sent him a WhatsApp message and immediately deleted same to avoid being detected” they alleged.
