Post Date : November 11, 2022

The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) has said that it recorded 436 fire outbreaks, 76 injured persons and 90 deaths from January to September, 2022.

NEMA’s North West Zonal Coordinator, Mr Imam Garki, who led a sensitisation exercise on Thursday to the residents of the state on fire prevention measures, said it was aimed at strengthening preparedness, prevention and timely response in addressing fire outbreaks.

He said, “NEMA, as the lead disaster and emergency agency, is taking the lead to sensitise state governments, federal and state agencies and organisations, as well as individuals, to do the needful on time.”

Garki, therefore, called on residents to imbibe the culture of safety as most fire incidents were human-induced.

He added that the sensitisation was part of a three-day stakeholders’ workshop in collaboration with Christian Aid/COOPI and the Federal Fire Service (FFS).

Yahaya Mohammed, Controller, Safety Awareness and Environmental Support Initiative (SAESI), emphasized that the season of harmattan needed more sensitisation on fire safety tips.
