A Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt has convicted and sentenced one Anayor Ugo to seven years imprisonment without option of fine for having carnal knowledge of a 12-years-old girl and impregnating her.
Ugo, a generator Machanic, had sometime in 2021 visited the home of the underage girl in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state, to repair their generator set on the directives of the girl’s father.
The mechanic had reportedly used the opportunity to defile the minor and allegedly impregnated in the process.
Although, Ugo had during the trial admitted having carnal knowledge of the underage girl, but denied ejaculating into the victim.
He claimed that it was the minor who held him when he went to repair the power generating set and dragged him inside her room before he had sex with her.
In her judgment, the trial Chief Magistrate, Rita Ogugua, said the prosecution was able to prove the case of defilement and having carnal knowledge of the underage girl through evidence and admission by Anayor Ugo.
Ogugua, thereafter convicted and sentenced Ugo to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine, a position which the Chief Magistrate said follows UGO’S plea for mercy after been convicted before the sentence.
