CORPSES of some of the killed police officers drafted from IRT Abuja, PMF 51 Oghara and Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba in Delta State to rescue three missing officers in Ohoror community, have been recovered by a combined team of security agents and the local vigilantes in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
Impeccable sources said the combined team stormed the forest on Sunday and Monday before they could recover some of the corpses.
It will be recalled that on January, 24, 2024, three police officers at a nipping point in Ohoror community, Ughelli North, Delta State, were detailed following a distressed call by one Moses Progress now at large, who was allegedly robbed by suspected herdsmen while performing sacrifice to the gods of the river under a bridge close to the nipping point.
The three officers, all Inspectors, who responded to the distressed call, never returned till date.
The alleged killing of the six officers and 15 others currently missing was confirmed by a Police Inspector, who escaped from the herdsmen captivity days later while making his entry.
Despite police authorities in Delta State keeping quite over the incidence, corpses of some of the killed officers were recovered between Sunday and Monday by combined team of local vigilante members from the forest.
Vanguard gathered that operational huts of the suspected killer Fulani herdsmen were destroyed as six corpses were recovered from Agadama bush, while others are still missing.
A senior security source at the Delta State Police Command, who confirmed the development on condition of anonymity, said: “The recovered corpses of the officers have been deposited at Mariere Central Hospital morgue in Ughelli.
“While depositing them at the morgue, some officials of the Delta State government were with the vigilante members, though it was not confirmed if the officials were representatives of the government.
“They spent over three hours at the hospital morgue during the documentation before being attended to at Ughelli Central Hospital.”
Another security source, said: “No details yet and I will get back to you as we progress.”
