Fact-checking claims by TikToker, X user that daughter/sons of ex govs are leading various House of Reps committees

On Wednesday 17 April 2024, a TikToker known as Info Hub (@infohubmax) claimed that the sons and daughter of ex Nigerian governors head various committee in the House of Representatives.

The TikToker @infohubmax made the claims, asking Nigerian youths to wake up.

The claims by @infohubmax on Wednesday read, ”Ex Governor Ibori’s Daugher will head House Committee NDDC. Ex Gov. Nasir El Rufai’s Son will head House Committee on Banking Regulation. Ex Gov. Alao Akala’s son will head House Committee on Youths in Parliament. Ex Gov. Osoba’s son will chair Committee on Justice. But it’s the son of a Nobody that will snatch ballot boxes and rig elections on election day. Youths wise up“

Also on X, a user named @disa2002 posted the same claims on Thursday, April 18 2024.

The X user on Thursday posted the same image and abused president Tinubu supporters.

He wrote, ” See your lives outside! You did all the dirty jobs for them but their kids are placed in top positions while you fools keeps barking online.

“We will keep fighting for good governance where a child of nobody can become somebody!!!“

This post on X has gained over 5k and over 400 likes on Friday afternoon.

The claims were also posted on some WhatsApp groups on Friday.

VERIFICATION

FIRST, the claim that Delta ex governor’s daughter, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu heads the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) committee, is TRUE.

A report by  Channels TV in October 2023, confirmed that Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu is the Chairman of the House of Reps Committee on NDDC.

In February 2023, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the daughter of former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, won election to the House of Representatives to represent Ethiope federal constituency of the State.

The second claim that the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el Rufai’s son, Bello El-Rufai is the Chairman, House of Reps Committee on Banking Regulation, I’d TRUE.

A report on 27 July 2023, by Punch newspaper confirmed the appointment of Bello el Rufai to head committee on Banking Regulation.

According to WikipediaOnline, the son of ex gov el Rufai, Mohammed Bello el-Rufai is the member of the Nigerian House of Representatives representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly.

Third claim that ex governor Alao Akala’s son  heads House Committee on Youths in Parliament is TRUE.

Mr Alao-Akala, who is the son of the late Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, is a member of the House of Representatives representing Ogbomosho Federal Constituency.

In a report by Premium Times in November 2023, Olamiju Alao-Akala, emerged as the Chairman of the Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF) of the 10th National Assembly.

The legislator was nominated unopposed by the members of the YPF.

The YPF was established in 2003 to help young legislators understand issues and equip them with the knowledge and skills to be better lawmakers. It consists of members of parliament who were 40 years of age at the time of election.

The fourth claim that ex governor Osoba’s son is the chairman House of Reps Committee on Justice, is TRUE.

In February 2023, Olumide Osoba, the son of former Governor Olusegun Osoba, was declared winner of the Obafemi/Owode/Odeda/ Abeokuta-North Federal Constituency on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), according to People’s Gazette report.
