Post Date : August 28, 2024

Flood has cut off the Potiskum-Gashua federal road in Yobe state, denying six local government areas of northern Yobe from accessing Damaturu the state capital following a heavy flow of water from Jama’are river in Bauchi state.

The LGAs affected include Jakusko, Bade, Karasuwa, Nguru, Yusufari and Machina.

The incident which occurred on Tuesday, August 28, 2024, forced all six local government areas of the northern Yobe to take alternative routes through the Bayamari-Dapchi road which has a poor road network or through Hadejia road in Jigawa state.

The Chairman of Nangere local government area, Samaila Musa who visited the scene, explained that the non-accessibility of the road has already affected movements to farms and markets especially those coming to Potiskum Livestock markets.

“I visited the road that was cut off, and it has already started affecting our economic and agricultural activities, especially those that will be coming to the livestock market in Potiskum. I am on my way to meet the Deputy Governor and inform him of the situation” he said.

Efforts to speak with the Controller, the Federal Ministry of Works proved abortive as his number was not going through.

Some engineers have advised the federal government to construct a mini bridge in the area, to avert the annual washing away of the road due to heavy flow of water.
