The Anambra State Police Command in Nigeria’s Southeast, has apprehended a man suspected of supplying arms and food to unknown gunmen terrorizing the state.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the suspect was arrested during an intelligence-driven patrol conducted by a Police-led Joint Security Force in the Pillar-Pole area of Aguata on September 22, 2024.
Ikenga revealed that the suspect (name withheld) was “carrying three bags of Garri.” Upon searching his belongings, the operatives uncovered a significant quantity of gunpowder hidden beneath the food items.
“Preliminary information indicates that the suspect was on his way to a criminal camp to deliver provisions and gunpowder intended for the production of improvised explosives for the gang. He is currently in custody and is assisting the Police in apprehending other gang members.”
“In a related incident, operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) stormed a criminal hideout in Oba Idemili South LGA in the early hours of September 25, 2024, arresting one Nelson Wisdom, a male from Etsako East, Edo State, and confiscating a locally fabricated pistol along with two live rounds of ammunition.
“Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam reaffirmed that the Police Command, together with other security agencies, will persistently act on credible information to maintain their offensive operations and thwart the criminal plans in the state.
