A Kano State Upper Shari’a Court has ordered the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone One to investigate the suspended Jigawa State commissioner, Danladi Sankara, over allegations of enticing married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.
The judge, Ibrahim Sarki Yola, gave the order following a direct complaint filed before the court by the husband of the first defendant, Tasleem.
The PUNCH reports that the Kano State Hisbah Board, last week Thursday, arrested Sankara in an uncompleted building belonging to him at Lamido Crescent in Nassarawa GRA, within Kano Metropolis with a married woman.
The Commander General of the board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, while addressing newsmen on Monday evening, said Sankara was granted bail on the condition that he would appear before the command whenever requested.
He, however, failed to appear for a reconciliatory meeting on Monday.
Daurawa said, “Had he appeared today, we would not have taken him to court tomorrow. As Hisbah members, Islam is our guidance, and it encourages reconciliation. However, by all indications, he doesn’t want reconciliation, so we will proceed with legal action.”
At the hearing of the case on Tuesday, the complainant prayed the court to order the police to conduct an investigation into the alleged relationship between his wife and Sankara.
Counsel for the complainant, Haruna Magashi, holding the brief of Sa’id Muhammad Tudun Wada, told the court that they had overwhelming evidence to prove the allegation against the two defendants, including video, pictures, phone conversation, and transfer of funds between them, among other evidence.
On his side, counsel for Tasleem, Rabi’u Shuaibu Abdullahi, dismissed all the allegations against his client.
The counsel informed the court that the couple had been separated for over a year, citing allegations of repeated maltreatment and abuse during their time together.
“All these allegations are untrue, and it was meant to tarnish her good reputation which will prevent her from getting married again if he divorces her,” he said
In his submission, counsel for Sankara, Aliyu Usman Hajji, alleged that the issue was politically concocted by the complainant to tarnish the image of Sankara.
“We also urged the court to order open investigations into all these untrue allegations because my client was prosecuted on social media, which led to his suspension as commissioner,” Aliyu said.
In his ruling, Ustaz Yola ordered the AIG Zone One in Kano to investigate the matter without harassment or arrest of anybody and take it to any state high court for prosecution.
