Church members brutalize journalist for videoing fire incident

A Port-Harcourt-based broadcast journalist, Precious Amadi, was allegedly brutalized Saturday evening by members of the Salvation Ministries Glorious Chapel in Rivers State for videoing a fire outbreak within the church premises.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at Plot 17, Birabi Street, GRA, Port Harcourt, the Rivers State headquarters of the church.

CrimeFacts learned that Mr. Precious Amadi is a broadcaster with SaveALife 88.9FM, a radio organization based in Port-Harcourt.

Narrating his ordeal in the hands of the “overzealous church members” via his Facebook page on Sunday morning, Mr Amadi explained that he was only at the church to help them stop the fire outbreak.

He said, “I was returning from work that evening, getting closer to the Salvation Ministries building; I saw that there was a fire outbreak, so I went in to see how I could help. While I was helping them to put out the fire, I also called the Rivers State Fire Service several but didn’t get any response.

“My crime against the overzealous members of the church that made them brutalize me was that I brought out my phone to send a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to the Rivers State Fire Service to assist in quenching the fire.

The journalist disclosed that he was beaten to a stupor and locked up in a room in the church. He said that his two phones were smashed.

Mr. Amadi also said the church members labeled him an evildoer.

However, Mr Amadi vowed to get justice.

Many people on social media have condemned the act by the Salvation Ministries church members.

In a statement sighted by *CrimeFacts* on Sunday afternoon, the Church administrator confirmed the incident but clarified that all facilities within the premises were intact.

However, the church was silent on the alleged torture and brutalization of the journalist.
