Six killed as truck rams into vehicles, pedestrians in Anambra

 

The Anambra police command says six persons were killed in a road accident at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson in Anambra, said the incident occurred at about 9 pm on Saturday.

Ikenga said the incident happened after a truck driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two tricycles and a commercial bus loaded with passengers and pedestrians.

“The Anambra state police command has taken over the scene of a fatal motor accident that occurred on 15th March 2025 by 9 pm at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha,” a statement issued by Ikenga reads.

“The accident claimed the lives of six persons and left a few others with various degrees of injury. The aim of the takeover is to ensure order in the area as well as to facilitate investigations into the incident.

The police spokesperson noted that those who were injured in the accident have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

He commiserated with families of the deceased while cautioning drivers to always ensure their vehicles are in good shape before plying the road.
