NDLEA arrests Lagos businessman for ‘importing cannabis from US to Nigeria’

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Arokodare Ebenezer, a Lekki-based businessman, for allegedly importing cannabis into the country from the United States.

In a statement on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson, said Ebenezer was arrested on March 24, at Bay Lounge, Admiralty Way in Lekki, while awaiting his consignment.

Babafemi said the suspect, who owns Damillionz Takeout, was arrested after his cargo, which arrived in Lagos on March 12, was seized.

The NDLEA spokesperson said the cargo contains 60 parcels of ‘loud’, a strong strain of cannabis.

“The 43-year-old businessman was arrested at Bay Lounge, Admiralty Way, Lekki area of Lagos where he does his illicit drug business on Monday 24th March 2025 while he was expecting to take the delivery of his latest drug consignment,” the statement reads.

“His arrest followed the seizure of his cargo that arrived in Nigeria in seven big cartons at a logistics company in Lagos on 12th March by NDLEA operatives of the directorate of operations and general investigation.”

Babafemi said after the arrest, Ebenezer was taken to his Lekki residence for a search and 94 grams of the cannabis were recovered.

The spokesperson added that the suspect claimed he started the illicit business in 2017.

Babafemi said the agency also thwarted the attempt of Omoruyi Terry, another businessman, to export 1,400 pills of tramadol to Italy through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos.

The anti-drug agency also arrested four suspects in Katsina over alleged possession of cannabis and diazepam on Friday.

The suspects are Baraka Abubakar, Haruna Alitine, Muhammad Babangida, and Hamisu Lawal.
