Gunmen kill one, abduct varsity student in Kebbi

The Nigerian Police Force, Kebbi State command, has confirmed the abduction of a 400-level student of the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, in the early hours of Tuesday in a brazen attack on Istijaba Villa, an off-campus hostel in Unguwar Jeji, Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The victim, according to a press statement signed by the command’s spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, identified as Augustine Madubiya, 23, a final-year Economics student, was kidnapped around 3 am by kidnappers who stormed the hostel premises.

“Tragically, a good Samaritan, Malam Siddi Hussaini, who was nearby attending to his cattle and attempted to intervene, was fatally shot during the incident.

“He was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor”, the statement partly read.

The statement further said the Divisional Police Officer in Kalgo swiftly mobilised a team of security operatives to the scene following the report.

“The command is following credible leads, and a combined team of security personnel is actively combing the surrounding forest areas to ensure the safe rescue of the victim and the arrest of those behind this despicable act”, the statement added.

The police have assured the public of their commitment to restoring safety and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
