Suspected killer herdsmen have again invaded the Gbagir community of Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, claiming at least ten persons and many others wounded early Good Friday.
According to a local source who pleaded anonymity, the assailants, reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the town in the early hours of Friday when people were going to the church in the community.
He confirmed the attack, explaining that it happened in the early hours of Friday around 6:00am.
The source said community members are now conveying the corpses of the deceased to the palace of the traditional ruler, lamenting that the government has abandoned them.
He said the herdsmen invaded the neighboring Community of Chito first on Thursday, killed two people, then proceeded to invade their community and killed 10 people, including women and children, the very next day.
The source also said about 25 people were equally wounded and was not quite sure how many would eventually survive.
Lamenting the incessant attack by herdsmen, he claimed that in all the attacks, no government security came to their aid.
All efforts to get confirmation from the local government chairman, Jonathan Modi, were not successful,l, as he did not pick up calls from our correspondent or respond to messages.
