Attack on Natasha, Ezekwesili, is mischief taken too far

The South East People’s Initiative has condemned the recent attack on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and the former Minister, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili by a United Kingdom based Nigerian business woman, Sandra Duru popularly known as “Professor Mgbeke”.

Duru had alleged that the suspended lawmaker lied over her sexual harassment allegation against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

She also averred that Ezekwesili was paid to back Natasha’s claims, an allegation which both women have denied.

National Publicity Secretary of the group, Mazi Chinedum Obi, while condemning the attack described Duru as a serial blackmailer adding that her claims were unfounded.

His statement reads in part,”The South-East People’s Initiative strongly condemns Sandra Duru’s unwarranted attacks on Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Dr. Oby Ezekwesili.

“We hail Dr. Ezekwesili’s courage in standing up for Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s alleged victimization.

“Sandra Duru’s actions show clear disregard for truth and decorum; an affront to good conscience. We commend Dr. Oby Ezekwesili for her bold stance and encourage other women to stand up for their rights and defend fellow women facing maltreatment regardless of what integrity-challenged hatchet jobbers may say or do.”

Meanwhile, the group has also noted that the reinstatement of Akpoti-Uduaghan will restore peace in the senate .

Obi said “Senator Akpabio and the Senate should prioritize peace and reconciliation, welcoming Senator Natasha back and making amends. This would not only resolve the matter but also demonstrate statesmanship.

“We recognize Senator Natasha’s tireless efforts in advocating for her people, even before her Senate election. Her determination and resilience in winning her election despite adversity are truly inspiring. Her courageous stand for her rights is an expression of her strength and character, making her an exemplary role model for young girls.

“We urge Senator Akpabio to consider the broader implications of his actions and the potential impact on national unity. Nigerians are known for their capacity for forgiveness, and retracting his actions would be a step towards healing and unity”. Obi stated.
