Lightning Kills Police Inspector On Duty In Borno

 

A police inspector attached to the Borno State Police Command has died after he was struck by lightning while on duty in Maiduguri.

This was disclosed in a statement posted on X on Friday by the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso.

The deceased officer, Inspector Abdulkadir Garba, popularly known as “Buratai”, was reportedly coordinating vehicle parking opposite the Borno State Police Command Headquarters alongside a senior colleague, ASP Wazani Adamu, when the incident occurred on Wednesday.

According to the PRO, the officers were carrying out their routine responsibilities at about 2:19 pm when strong winds began to gather ahead of a rainfall.

 

The two officers reportedly attempted to seek shelter as the weather worsened.

However, a loud thunderclap was immediately followed by a lightning strike, which hit both men while they were still at their duty post.

ASP Wazani Adamu survived the incident, while Inspector Garba reportedly sustained partial burns and died from the impact of the lightning strike.

Inspector Garba was regarded by colleagues and residents as a dedicated and hardworking officer known for his commitment to duty.

His death has since sparked grief among fellow officers and members of the public who knew him.

The tragic incident has also drawn attention to the unpredictable dangers security personnel face while carrying out their responsibilities.
