A non-teaching staff of a public primary school in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly impregnating a 14-year-old pupil.
The suspect was accused of sexually abusing the victim repeatedly within the school premises, resulting in pregnancy.
Identified as 43-year-old Amuda Kamaldeen Olubukola, the suspect was apprehended following investigations into the matter after her mother alerted authorities that her daughter had become pregnant as a result of the abuse.
Findings by the command indicated that the suspect allegedly engaged in sexual relations with the Primary Four pupil on different occasions inside his office.
The victim reportedly told investigators that the suspect repeatedly assured her of marriage and prevented her from raising an alarm during the incidents by covering her mouth.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted involvement in the act while attributing his conduct to “the work of the devil.”
Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Nda Mohammed, described the incident as a serious attack on the rights and dignity of a child.
He insisting that the command would ensure that justice is served.
“Schools are meant to nurture, protect and inspire children, not expose them to abuse.
“Any individual who preys on the innocence of a child, particularly within the school environment, has committed a grave offense against the society and will be made to face the full weight of the law,” the commandant said.
He stressed that educational institutions must remain safe spaces for children and warned that the command would not tolerate acts capable of endangering pupils under any guise.
Mohammed disclosed that investigations had reached an advanced stage and that the suspect would be arraigned upon the conclusion of legal procedures.
The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and urged residents to promptly report child abuse and other related cases.
