The Northern Regional Police Command in Ghana has arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old Nigerian man in Tamale.
The suspects, identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were arrested over the death of Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze, whose body was discovered in his residence at Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the police on Sunday, preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased lived in a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national identified as Godwin Nwafor.
“Preliminary investigations established that the deceased, his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor, were all residing together in a three-bedroom apartment at Sanzirigu, Tamale,” the statement said.
Police said investigations commenced after officers received a report that the deceased had been found lying motionless in a pool of blood inside his bedroom.
“A team of investigators immediately visited the scene where examination revealed that the deceased had sustained a deep cut wound to the forehead, while a towel had been stuffed into his mouth. The room had also been ransacked,” the statement added.
During the crime scene examination, investigators recovered a wooden pestle suspected to have been used in the attack, alongside other materials considered relevant to the investigation.
“During the crime scene examination, police recovered a wooden pestle suspected to have been used in the attack, together with other evidential materials for forensic examination. The body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical officer before being deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” the statement added.
The police said intelligence-led operations led to the arrest of the suspects at Tatale later the same day while they were allegedly attempting to flee to the Republic of Togo.
“Through intelligence-led operations, police intercepted and arrested the two suspects at Tatale on the same day while they were attempting to flee into the Republic of Togo through the Tatale route. They were subsequently handed over to the Tamale District CID to assist with investigations,” the statement said.
Police further disclosed that during interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted to conspiring to kill the deceased after accusing him of withholding proceeds from alleged internet fraud activities.
“During interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted conspiring to murder the deceased after claiming that he had been withholding proceeds they had obtained through internet fraud activities,” the police stated.
A search conducted following their arrest reportedly led to the recovery of several items suspected to have been stolen from the victim’s room, including mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents and other valuables.
Police said all recovered items had been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
The suspects remain in police custody and were expected to be arraigned before a court on Monday, July 13, 2026, to facilitate ongoing investigations.
