It’s Niger Republic that recorded first case of COVID-19, not Niger State – Govt

The Niger State Government has refuted an online publication claiming that Niger state now confirmed case of COVID-19 in the state.

According to a press statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mary Noel Berje, the said publication was actually referring to the first case of COVID 19 confirmed in Niger Republic earlier today and not Niger state.

She noted that the Niger State Government has however, put in place relevant surveillance measures to protect all residents in the State.

The statement read in part: “The Niger State Government wish to reassure the public that there has been no suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 in Niger State.

“We advise the general public to be vigilant, adhere strictly to personal hygiene and seek medical attention in the event of symptoms such as fever, cough and cattarh.

“We call on individuals with travel history from countries and states with cases of COVID-19 to ensure self isolation for 14 days and report to the nearest Health facility.”
