Kano Man Stabs Ex-Wife, Brother-In-Law After Court Terminates Their Marriage

Post Date : January 31, 2021

A 28-year-old man, Biliyaminu Abdullahi has been arrested by the police in Kano for allegedly stabbing his ex-wife, Shafa’atu Sule and her brother, minutes after a Sharia court sitting in Rano had terminated their marriage.

During police interrogation, Abdullahi said his action was informed by displeasure with the court’s judgement because no offence was established that warranted the ruling.

In a WhatsApp voice note shared with our reporter in Kano, the suspect owned up to the offence, but claimed that he was living peaceably with his wife when her brother, Adamu Saleh took her away from her matrimonial home on no account.

He said he had followed all necessary processes to ensure that his wife returns but her family insisted that he must divorce her even when he hadn’t erred in anyway.

“Her brother came to my house and took her away for no reason. I followed them to inquire over what offence, they didn’t tell me. I sent an intermediary they didn’t tell him why they took my wife away. I went to their house to hear my offence they chased me away asking me to divorce their daughter and I rejected then they charged me to court.

He said, “After investigation the court found no offence on me, the judge dismissed the case, they reported to another court no offence, the court threw away the case. They reported again the third time where the court ruled that the marriage be terminated. The court said I should collect N20, 000 as dowry I refused insisting that I only want my wife.

“Then the judge gave them permission to go and pack their properties from my house, that made me furious and I decided to take this action by stabbing both of them. I stabbed her on her head and her brother on his shoulder seeing that he was the genesis of my predicament.

The wife, Shafa’atu Sule who is heavily pregnant for Abdullahi however alleged lack of care and assault against her ex-husband who she added abuses her parents on little or no provocation.

The spokesman Kano police command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa who confirmed the report said the State Commissioner of Police, Habu A. Sani had since ordered the case to be transferred to the state CID unit of the command for discrete investigation before the suspect is charged to court.

Kiyawa said the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 11am at Wutar Kara village in Rano Local government area of the Kano state.
