A 26-year- old man has been electrocuted to death at Ede Ai-agbenu village in Okpoga district of Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
The deceased identified as Humble Paul, from Aidogodo community in Okpoga, had on Sunday climbed the electricity pole to reconnect some residents of Ede Ai-agbenu to the power grid when he met his death.
Witnesses said some JEDC staff had earlier disconnected certain consumers in the area from its electricity supply over their failure to pay an alleged N400 light bill.
The affected consumers, according to witnesses, had resorted to help from the deceased who they claimed was an electrician.
Our correspondent gathered that while the deceased was atop the pole reconnecting the disconnected wires, the power supply to the line was restored by JED and the young man probably working on naked wires without any protective equipment got stuck to the pole instantly.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed that the deceased was electrocuted.
