Reps receive report on Petroleum Industry Bill

Post Date : June 30, 2021

The house of representatives has received the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) report.

Mohammed Monguno, chairman ad hoc committee on PIB, laid the report during plenary session on Wednesday.

“That the house do receive the report of the ad–hoc committee on Petroleum Industry Bill on a bill for an act to provide legal, governance, regulatory and fiscal framework for the Nigerian Petroleum industry, the development of host communities; and for related matters, 2021 (HB. 1061),” he said.

After the report was laid, Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house, asked his colleagues to get a copy of the report ahead of its consideration.

The senate had received its own version of the report on Tuesday to be considered on Thursday.

The PIB has been in the works since 2008 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Successive sessions of the national assembly have failed to pass the legislation owing to the complexities of the oil industry and divergent interests.

But the current assembly said it is committed to passing the bill.

On Tuesday, Gbajabiamila said the PIB, electoral act amendment bill and supplementary budget will be passed within two weeks — before embarking on its annual recess.
